And there Crowley stood, at the gates of Purgatory.

He could almost taste the irony in the back of his throat -- or perhaps that was bile. He was certain they tasted the same. Disgusting, poisonous, wretched --

The bouncers were a nice touch, though Crowley didn't allow them the luxury of looking bothered. He even allowed them to escort him to where Jinx was, though he needed no assistance. He could simply teleport, but manners were just as important as tact, and the feel of the place was not something that escaped him.

No, he was on enemy territory.

What else was new.

He slid the curtain aside with a wave of his hand, not actually touching the fabric, before the King of Hell stepped into the room, calm, cool, collected, and -- now officially curious.

"Nineteen and pregnant, how does it feel to be a statistic?" Crowley asked smoothly, sliding his hand back into his pocket, though his interest was given away by his eyes.

He had, of course, done his homework.

Idiots.

"Warm and fuzzy," she answered without any hesitation. "Like the universe is shitting rainbows on me."

Finally, she had the opportunity to look him over. No need to beat around the bush about it, either. Those enormous eyes of hers took him in from head to toe and back up again. Receding hairline, thick around the middle, eyebrows that could do tricks on command.

Leaning back in her plush chair, she drew a card out of the deck with her middle and forefinger, then flicked it in Crowley's general direction. It just happened to be a Joker.

"How much have you learned since the last time we spoke?"

Quick as lightning, Crowley caught the card, but he was more focused on the question.

What had he learned? The basics, of course, of his own world. No one from his world was from his own timeline -- everyone was at least two years behind him, if not more. Castiel had no idea he was driven insane and Sam Winchester was unscarred by the Cage. The angels, though Gabriel had proven himself to be moderately entertaining, were of little consequence to him, except for the angel that he had not spoken to yet.

The Devil himself.

"What interests me," Crowley said suddenly, flicking the card back towards Jinx without glancing at the image on the front, "is your decision to keep it."

His quick reflexes got her to smirk, but his words wiped the expression right off her face. Lips pursed, eyes narrowed, she tried to focus on her breathing. No need to lose her cool and set a demon on fire. He was just asking questions, which was natural. About as natural as her having this conversation ten dozen fucking times already.

Keeping her upper lip restrained from curling above her canines, she flicked another card at him, completely ignoring the one that fell to the ground.

"Her," she corrected. "My decision to keep her. And my reasoning behind said decision is none of your fucking business." Not even two minutes into the conversation and she was already growling. Great first date.

Card get -- and this time, Crowley flipped it over to look at it, faintly amused at his luck.

"Calm down, I have little to no interest in whatever you decide to do with your darling bundle of joy," Crowley said mildly, flipping the card over with his fingers to to show Jinx that he had received the Queen of Hearts. "It's admirable, really -- to perservere despite all odds and individuals telling you otherwise. Because I'm sure they are."

Crowley paused before pulling up a chair, flipping it so the back of it faced Jinx, straddling it so he could rest his arms on the top of the chair. His stature prevented him from truly looming over the chair, but Crowley still somehow managed to look completely at ease, his fingers curling around the wood, his eyes fixated on Jinx.

"They can get annoying, can't they?" Crowley asked, and he seemed genuinely interested in her answer. "The angels lording over your every move -- I can't even imagine what Lucifer has to say about you. Or how you're even still alive. My congratulations -- not many are ( ... )

Okay, she was on edge about the subject. Obviously. Gabriel's family wouldn't shut up about it, the press was always in her face, she was so sick lately, and just frustrated. With a crinkle of her nose, she rolled her eyes at him as he showed her the card. So much for playing it cool in front of the King of Hell.

However, she listened. Listened to every word this strange demon had to say. He was giving a perspective on the situation she had yet to hear. An educated one, but without extreme bias. Jinx pursed her lips, rubbing them together for a moment before she spoke.

"Before this happened, I was training to kill Lucifer. The arrogant prick. Now there's two of them. Decay-cifer wants me vaporized and Bowie-cifer just wants to lecture me about the dangers of teen pregnancy when your uterus is one degree of separation from God. Whatever. I'm dangerous, too. I'm gonna start getting stabby before too long."

Ranting? Felt nice.

Oh, that obnoxious bravado and determination -- it reminded Crowley of the Winchesters, those self-righteous morons. Killing the Devil, what an insane notion -- and yet, Crowley had allowed himself the luxury of believing it was possible when he gave Tweedle Dumb and Tweedle Moose the legendary Colt to drive a bullet directly through the Devil's brain.

"I am going to tell you something," Crowley said, leaning backwards, his wrists still resting neatly on the back of the chair, relaxed, "something that few people from my world will say out loud for fear of being smote against the countryside."

He paused before he continued, his tone turning from light to slightly more serious, and the demon leaned forward to rest his elbows on the chair.

"The angel is more than a prick -- he's a waste of oxygen and life space. Quite frankly, he deserves to have his tongue ripped out by a diminutive princess such as yourself, and I would happily buy front row tickets to see it happen ( ... )

Yes, but the major difference between Jinx and the Winchesters? She was actually capable of the task. The girl already had an archangel wrapped around her finger and she was blackmailing Batman. Killing the devil would just be another notch in her bedpost. She actually thought that it was possible until she put on a few dozen pounds and couldn't wear anything that didn't stretch. Now the only things she had to rely on were a crippled drunk and all those Enochian spells she studied when she and Gabriel started dating.

Issues? She had a subscription.

As the demon spoke, she set the cards down and absently spread them over the table. If there was one thing about Crowley that she liked, it was that every word which passed his thin lips was interesting. Once he finished, he left a small smirk tugging at the corner of her lips.

"They tried family counseling back in the Dark Ages. Hence the dark. They're like a trailer park family that does nothing but scream, run away, and the cops don't even respond to the domestic violence calls. I ( ... )

Crowley didn't bother glancing at the ceiling. He knew, full well, what Gabriel was capable of doing -- and it was hard not to feel the power emanating from the entire establishment. Still, the demon didn't look bothered, or remotely afraid. Few didn't know of his decision to rebel against Lucifer and the loyal demons of Hell and he was certain Gabriel had at least gathered his position when he had stated he was the King of Hell in the first place. Him knowing the truth was of no consequence to him -- especially since Crowley knew Gabriel was on less than adequately good terms with his brother.

"Angels," Crowley agreed, entertained, "though demons are no better," he admitted, shrugging a shoulder dismissively. "The majority of them are bloodthirsty savage idiots -- but enough of my world. I'm far more interested in yours."

He then allowed himself the luxury of rolling his eyes to the ceiling before looking around.

"Why Purgatory?"

Though Jinx was definitely in tune with her surroundings, her other half was still good enough at eavesdropping that he was hard to catch. So, she just assumed he was listening in on every conversation she had until proven otherwise. The last thing she wanted to come home to tonight was an angry angel. There was way too much stress on her plate to deal with that.

With a clawed thumb, she flicked a few cards off the table. She didn't seem to care about that deck; it might be because she could flip a new one out of her sleeve at any moment.

"You're no fun," she sighed dramatically. "I really was excited to reveal that this is my club. You never even gave me the pleasure of seeing the look on your face when you discovered I was dating the fattest archangel." After another small display of exaggerated displeasure, she drew the second Joker instinctively out of the deck.

"We appropriated the place from Bowie-cifer when he took an extended leave from this island. 'briel wanted to name it something stupid, but I decided on Purgatory. It ( ... )

How disgustingly naive. Purgatory was full of monsters and souls who didn't have a place anywhere else. It wasn't a peaceful go between. It was just as damning as Hell itself.

"Purgatory is something of a mystery in my world," Crowley mused. Though he did not move, he suddenly had his own set of cards in front of him. "It's location is completely hidden. No one knows where it is or who rules it. Untouchable -- but billions of souls of supernatural beings reside there. I suppose it's impossible to find for a reason."

Or it had been.

How?

Purgatory, my fine feathered friend. Purgatory.

He would go back in time to strangle himself if he could.

Quirking her brow, she eyed the cards he manifested out of thin air. Jinx was still on the fence about this demon, but he was more tolerable than most people from Gabriel's world.

"Oh, please," she scoffed, leaning back in her seat. "If you can't find an interdimensional pocket large enough to contain that many souls and that much power? Then you are so not trying hard enough."

The girl said that with so much confidence, too. With a smirk, she picked four face down cards out of the remainder of the deck, then shoved the rest onto the floor. As they fluttered to the ground, she scooped up those four select cards and fanned herself with them. The kid was holding every damn ace in the deck.

"Would you like a drink before we get started?"

It was growing increasingly harder to keep his mouth soundly shut about his future -- and it was even harder when his reasoning for doing so was so incredibly difficult to remember. Keeping Castiel ignorant was of paramount importance to Crowley's ultimate survival within the Port -- he was the only ally that Crowley could count on to not stab him in the back on a moment's notice, given his timeline and what he had yet to go through.

Crowley showed none of his annoyance or slighted pride, though -- allow the girl to underestimate him and draw whatever conclusions she wished. It would be her own funeral if he deemed it necessary.

The aces, though, did not escape his notice.

"Scotch," Crowley said after a moment or two of silence, his own cards vanishing with a flick of his fingers.

Oh, she definitely noticed that he didn't respond to anything she said about Purgatory. Something was there, but Jinx wasn't about to dig her claws into that. Now wasn't really the time to make enemies by not leaving well enough alone. So, she let that one slide, then dropped the aces to the ground beside her.

Looking off toward the curtain, she clapped her hands twice. Oh, she was definitely playing it smooth. The more Crowley got to know her, he'd realize that she set all this up to make herself look better than she actually was. For all the demon knew right now, she was a smooth operator. It didn't even take five seconds for someone to enter the room to take their orders. He was one of Gabriel's dummies. So what? Her real staff would just roll their eyes at Jinx and ruin her cool vibe.

"Scotch, my usual, and bring us another set of cards to decorate the room with." The drop nodded, then left the way it came. Her attention was now back on Crowley. "Do you have any plans for this place? People seem to do one of two things here. ( ... )

The moment the waiter appeared, Crowley's lip twitched slightly. The demon might have been on enemy territory and might be at the will of whatever powers were at play -- but that didn't mean he couldn't spot a false person when he saw one. It was the feel -- an empty shell, with no soul -- an illusion, if you would. He briefly contemplated ruining her illusion -- but decided against it. Let the girl have her fun. He certainly would be doing the same.

"I plan to be left alone," Crowley said simply, and for the first time in the conversation, the demon was telling the complete and utter truth, "and survive. Anything past that is a death sentence."

The sorceress raised her brow at him and blinked slowly, wondering if she should ask him if he was serious or not. Was that a joke? Was she supposed to laugh? Well, whether or not she was supposed to, Jinx still chuckled and shook her head.

"Good luck with that. No, really. This is a small city and people can be very persistent. Gabriel tried the whole left alone thing, and look at him now." With that logic, Crowley should be an expecting father in under a year. See, look at the positives.

"Now, what's with the death sentence talk?"
