[Japan had always been one of the possibilities after Italy as he did enjoy the culture of her people, certainly. And he spoke the language fairly decently for a "gaijin". Enough to hold a somewhat complex conversation, at any rate. However, he'd never quite gotten that far after being woken by the Greeters in Siren's Port.

Oh well. There were things of interest here, especially the attention to detail in that little packet. It was clear she had put much effort into attracting various Newcomers to this job. He could only wonder why, really. Maybe she was one of those types that felt attaching herself to what she thought was a just cause would distract her from things "upstairs", hm?

It didn't take him long to notice the fumbling, either. Bit of a nervous tic, then. Was she slightly people shy? How curious indeed. Then again it could've been the most diverse population she'd seen in ages, given she was from the island well known for its isolationism. A lingering tendency towards Sakoku, as it were. Not that he blamed her for being cautious. Not everyone had such a benevolent goal in mind.

Offering a soft smile the man rose from his seat, his slicked hair and pale, regal features perhaps a bit more distinctive than he would've liked.]

I noticed there is no mention of health benefits in this..

[And he held up the packet carefully, then licking a finger to turn the pages.]

This can be dangerous work. What if there was to be an accident? Surely, if there is assistance for the students and for accommodation, should there not be medical benefits as well? Or at least a doctor on-site?

[There were a lot of reasons she put so much effort into her work. For one she found the port most interesting! From home she was trapped in Tokyo with very little hope of stepping outside of her safe little box. Being sent away to one island and then to this one? Well, she was a changed girl and curious people plus adventure suited her tastes. The information was originally gathered because she found it just that interesting. Now? Now it was best to try to pass it on.]

[As the man stood she brought her hands to her back, holding a pen in both hands and letting him speak. Ah, yes, that question. She gave him a nod, glad that he brought it up. It was things like this that meant they were paying attention, wasn't it? Moving forward to scan the front table that had the left over copies she paused, picking up the pamphlet that explained all of the Newcomer businesses, legal assistance and where best to go for medical help. It was the information that they handed out to Newcomers when they arrived. She held it up as she spoke:]

Unfortunately there isn't much medical coverage as one might desire. The reason for this is that at the moment Medical appears to be covered by the government in this port. In this pamphlet you'll find a list of Newcomer doctors, healers and care givers who have volunteered their assistance to any of us who need it, Greeter or not.

[She paused, holding the pamphlet in both hands before her, bending the edges a bit. Her voice took on an apologetic sad tone.] I know it's not much, but most greeters have the chance to learn first aid and CPR and some of the local greeters have healing abilities. Other then that, at the moment it's all we have to offer.

[Yes, he had thought that to be the case, given the considerable lack of staff on hand. She may have gained the favour of some of the proper authorities, but it was a hard lesson learned that so many did not care to invest in a program that wouldn't benefit them personally. Hannibal, on the other hand, knew how this position could work to his advantage; He simply had to endear himself to her in his own way.]

Surely you must know what sort of creatures lurk in the Dark here, having witnessed it firsthand, Mademoiselle. So if a Monster were to attack...? How would a pretty girl like you survive?

[His silvery French accent rang like the bell-like chime of a Suzumushi on a crisp autumn night, if slightly more insinuating. His voice ran smoothly through the gathering, cutting through the air with all the finesse of a well-honed blade much like the one she had neatly placed behind her. The former metallic sound was far more inviting now, especially with the amused look in his eye.]

That is fine for...non-emergencies, but if something were more immediate....Wouldn't you feel safer with someone knowledgable in the medical field on location? Speaking for myself, as well as those concerned, I do not think it would be too much to ask for...To employ a medical student?

[He was of course referring to himself. If he were to employ himself here, as well as in one of the local hospitals then the benefits could be outweigh the risks.]

[Did she know what sort of creatures lurked in the dark? Anyone who had managed a 24 hour stay here had to have some idea of what might be out there... And she? She had at least had some study as well as first hand experience with them.]

[The question of 'How would a pretty girl like you survive?' was a little off putting, but she didn't show it in the least. Simply giving a smile she nodded once before speaking.]

I've been here for some time now and have had to deal with different creatures, yes. I am in no way properly trained well enough to be out at night on my own, but I do have training enough for my own defense. I also try and make sure that someone else is always here. Caution is key. But...

[and this lead into the next part of his questions, for she had the feeling she understood where this was going. How would a pretty girl like her survive a monster attack? Luck, for one. Help from others, for another. She has an angry scar around her left ankle, hidden by tall socks to prove she understood the need for this.]

...your point is clearly made. As I said, having Greeters skilled in healing is, at the moment, the best we have. A medical student on site however would be most helpful. If we actually had those interested in such a position it might be manageable. I for one would fully support it.

[Ah yes. The Japanese nonchalance. He was familiar with it. But his intent was not to be off-putting, simply to bring attention to detail. And to compliment where compliments were due.]

Yes...Of course you have.

[But even pretty girls needed protection or someone who would look after the wounds. Yes. She understood now. He could see it in her eyes. He'd reel her in now. No need for any more games.]

But how can you be sure no one is interested? After all, you speak so delightfully. How could we refuse?

I myself am a medical student, after all. All you need to do is convince me.

[In the back of her mind it annoyed her a little bit, that she could not place this mans face at all. Sure, she hadn't seen everyone who came and went, and she wasn't sure on this fellows name just yet, but in the back of her mind she ran through file after file, trying to place him. A medical student, after all, was valuable to any of the Newcomers out there.]

I can't be sure that no one is interested but I could take a wild guess that you might be? [She smiled, fingers fiddling with that pamphlet still. Interesting. She could bring the idea up to someone about a medical team on site for greeters and those hurt when they arrive. It wasn't a bad thought.]

Perhaps we could speak a bit more after this is done, to consider over some major details? I could try and convince you that your idea is one to follow, hmm? [clearly he would want to follow through with it, as he did bring it up, right?]

forwarding to after meeting okay? :3 eats_the_rude August 26 2011, 07:33:07 UTC
[Oh, she was a bright one for her age, certainly. He could see the wheels turning, trying to fit the pieces of a puzzle that could not readily be solved.

"Who was this man?" She must have been thinking.

But he was not ready to give up the game when revealing an identity would spoil all the fun. Especially when dear Will Graham was sitting several rows ahead. Couldn't have that, now could they?

He'd go along with this chin-wagging bit though. So, when she'd ask to speak more after the lecture he'd agree, and wait until some time afterwards when the rest of the crowd mingled about to collect their information or perhaps even go home.]

Yes, of course...

[And there he'd linger on, just on the edge of the milling individuals where the shade managed to cast a shadow on his face, certainly a lot taller up close than being in the back row might suggest.]

sounds lovely! :3 controllingluck August 26 2011, 08:23:13 UTC
[That was pretty much her thoughts on this situation. Who was this man? But she would figure that out later. Perhaps she could try and figure out who he was while others talked, or if he interacted with others or not.]

[In the end she was still clueless to who he might be. Still, she did remember that they were to speak after the meeting. It had been a long meeting, but a good one. The idea that this man brought to plate was a very good idea as well; one she wanted to work with.]

[When it was over and she was done talking to several people she had found him again, lingering behind. Approaching him she smiled, giving a short bow of her head.]

Hello again. I have to admit I don't think I caught your name.

Hello.

[He tasted the word quietly, the notable French silvering the sounds. Once they were alone his smile slowly widened as he bent forwards and kissed the back of her hand politely as was part of his custom, eyes shining with what appeared as pinpricks of red light reflecting off of them.

Her skin was soft, pliant against his mouth. Inhaling softly he could detect hints of floral skin cream, cloves from a recently polished sword, and a hint of..something else. He surprisingly couldn't quite place it.]

Neither did I get yours, Mademoiselle, so I suppose we are evenly nameless then.

[As he'd arrived late to the gathering he'd missed her introduction entirely; Yet, he would've much preferred her to introduce herself to him personally to further intrigue if not amuse himself.]

Though if you should insist it I would gladly give you my name: Robert Grémil.

[Grémil, the french variation referring to the purple gromwell, otherwise known as Murasaki in Japanese. He thought it fitting that he should take his aunt and uncles' names, after all.]

[It was interesting to hear his accent. French was one of the classes she had been taking at the college so his term of 'mademoiselle' and his accent didn't confuse her at all. She at least understood what it meant.]

[As he touched her however, the soft kiss to the back of her hand she did noticeably stiffen, completely unused to people touching her and more so tipping her into worry for this man. Mentally she hoped her bad luck would not effect him... as well as dreaded to think what she would be effected with in place of it later today. She had stiffened but she was polite about it, not jerking away or anything of the sort]

[Instead she gave a polite bow to his introduction and a careful smile.}

It is a pleasure to meet you, Monsieur Grémil. You are from France? [She asked curiously, unable to help herself from doing so. It would shock her if he said he was from outer space, really, though by now it shouldn't be surprising, ever. Ah, but she should have introduced herself first:]

I am Himawari Kunogi. [She said it in westernized order, mostly because she had gotten used to doing so over the last few years. So many people didn't understand otherwise.]

[Tension where softness should have been was most unfitting for a young lady such as herself, and he would have told her so had those alarm bells not been ringing so very loudly before his very eyes, telling him to let go. He sensed the apprehension and instead of continuing to embarrass or tease her further he did not linger, retreating from her hand rather quickly. His movement to correct his mistake was perhaps a bit too sudden...Almost as if his reflexes belonged to a tiger rather than a man.]

Ah, you'll have to forgive me. It is..custom, you see. In my home country Le baisemain is a gesture of politeness in greeting to a lady. It is meant as a sign of courtesy, but I understand we come from very different places, don't we?

[The ill-received motion was a warning not to tread too loosely with this one. She was careful and guarded, to be certain. Her mistrust was still too fresh for him to reach the dewy silk of skin just yet.]

As it is mine..And you are from Japan.

[He did not mind having to go first. It was a gentleman's duty, after all. And why shouldn't he, when if he did not he would in fact appear more conspicuous? Though, if it did strike him to be worth the sport he might've teased her with the notion of his being from the heavens. Arguably, those from France were alien to someone like her.]

Kunogi Himawari.

[A perfect pronunciation, as if his very tongue had molded into that of a native speaker's, though he purposefully .]

You are named for the Sunflower? I can see how that is..Most appropriate.

[The family name was...Most peculiar. 'Kunogi'? Depending on the kanji it could've meant many things but it was the 'ku' that interested him. He tilted his head as he watched her, and smiled, musing. 'Black beautiful jewel', or 'dove'...Black Dove. Yes, that was most fitting. A clever black dove.]

( ooc: I am very sorry about the wait. Things sort of piled up and got away from me! Hope you don't mind backtagging as I'd love to continue.)
