The hallways of the manor seemed too empty, her footsteps too loud. Elizabeth might even think the silence unforgiving, but then... that wouldn't have been entirely uncalled for, would it?
After the terrible things she said, Ciel had every right to not forgive her. When Ciel broke her heart, she'd been so upset, so angry, that the only future she'd ever known was so easily taken away from her. But in the end, being angry hadn't made her happy...
The only thing her unleashed temper did was hurt Ciel, the person that she loved most. Clutching her abdomen, her stomach churned with the memory of hurting the person she'd spent so long learning to protect. He didn't love her. At least, not in the way that she wished he would. But his happiness still meant the world to her. To hurt him so deeply without regard to his own feelings... Elizabeth never wanted to be that person again.
Try as she might, the girl couldn't keep her pace from quickening right up to the last step of Ciel's door. Chewing on her bottom lip in such an unladylike way that her mother would have scorned her if she saw, Elizabeth knocked on the door.
