Second on the left is coming up. He can't help but visualize what will be around the corner even though it's an inherently flawed project when he doesn't even know what the street looks like; as much as he thinks the world moves around him he's never been able to dictate his surroundings. In his mind the architecture on the next street becomes some sort of idyllic amalgamation of Manhattan and postcard pictures of Paris. He can't settle on a still image of her, though. As soon as he wonders if she'll be looking straight towards him he immediately pictures her as a dot at the end of an almost infinitely long street instead, or standing with her back turned.

When he does round the corner he finds that she's reasonably close but looking at something across the street from her. He completely forgets whatever I just spent the last paragraph describing, then a few steps later he remembers enough to call her name.

Listening out solely for footsteps did her no favours, it seemed, as she started at the first sound to disturb the quiet street which, to her defense, was loud, familiar, and her own name. Unmistakeable. For that volume of voice to accompany her name felt unusual, more shocking perhaps than the call to attention at all, but that was all habit- only one person needed to do little more than whisper Chane's name for her immediate response and it seemed the number was growing ( ... )

After she steps forward he raises his voice again to meet her advance.

"I hope I didn't keep you waitin' - I know I said twenty minutes but to be honest keepin' time ain't my strong point. And I also mean I hope you weren't here too long before I got here, they said people might turn up from any time but - you look just like that night on the train, and if you remember me you musta been pulled from sometime then or after, right? But that doesn't tell me how long you've been here, I guess." By that time he was around an arm's length from her so he stopped walking and lowered his voice to suit the distance, "I'm here now."

It wasn't meant as a reassurance, whatever it might have sounded like. It was just an acknowledgement: he had made her wait again.

The way he said it, it was as though the amount of time was something to be excused. They had agreed upon a set number of minutes. They had even agreed upon a location for them to meet. For somebody who freely made promises on the terms of 'forever', he seemed to be just as concerned with much smaller things.

Perhaps this was another part of waiting-- perhaps this was just him. Chane found herself giving a gentle nod to confirm everything, or to put an end to his worries spoken aloud. If not even separate worlds could keep him away, then maybe there was some truth in his words aboard the train, of possessing the world and everything in it-- or, at the very least, a sense of omnipresence. Different timelines or no, he was the same as that time in the warehouse, and that was enough. You're here with me.
