Who: Snow White and Shoshanna Dreyfus When: June 22nd, Afternoon. Where: Different sectors throughout the city. Summary: Apartment hunting! Warnings: None that I ca think of!
Shoshanna ran a hand through her hair; the breeze had picked up and it was fast becoming a tangled mess. Glancing over Snow's shoulder at the newspaper, she made a little noise of agreement.
"Mm. It seems there aren't any that could be considered mid-range." The ones they had looked at that were affordable had nearly all been dismal, and all the nice ones were more than even the two of them combined could afford. Adjusting her bag further up her shoulder, Shoshanna reached out a hand to point at another listing.
"I think this one is quite nearby." She was starting to get the hang of Siren's Port; after the dismally-planned avenues of Paris, it was quite easy once she learned her way around. She gave the other girl a brief smile, trying not to be so intimidating and grim all the time.
"Maybe not, but there has to be some place in our price range," Snow said, adjusting her purse for a moment as she checked the listing the other woman pointed out.
"Hm. It's close by, and if it doesn't work, it's another we can cross off the list. If that doesn't work, well. No rest for the weary."
Her smile turns a little grim. "Though I would like to be off the street before the sirens go off." A short laugh, and she gestures in the direction of the street the next apartment is located on.
As they walk, Shoshanna decides to make conversation. "All this is making me miss my rooms above my cinema back home. It was nice, living there--like my own little hideaway." And truthfully, there was much to hide from.
She smiled faintly. "That's something I agree with. I don't want to be out after sirens; I'm not up to dealing with any monsters."
She folded the newspaper and put it back in her purse, walking side by side with the other woman. "Mm. That does sound nice, actually. Back home I had an apartment, but it was a nice one, and it was around a lot of people I knew. I miss it, sometimes, being here. It's easy to miss home, isn't it?"
"Nor I," she agreed. She wasn't afraid of much, but a glance outside her dingy window one evening had been enough to discourage her from ever going out after sirens. "Have you ever seen one?"
She cocked her head; she didn't know much about Snow, so it was interesting to hear little tidbits like that. "It is," she agreed, and she couldn't help but sound a little sad. She'd been missing home, her real home, for years.
"Not yet. I've made sure not to be out in the darkness for some time; I'm not exactly a fighter," Snow shook her head, glancing at the buildings around them.
"If anything, being here makes me realize what I miss more then anything," She said, glancing at Shoshanna. She wasn't sure of everything that had happened, but if she was sad about it, it wasn't good. She had some guesses, but she kept those close to her chest.
"Nor I," she replied, though she had her gun with her, and most certainly knew how to use it. She'd used it just before she died, in fact, to kill Fredrick Zoller. And should the need arise, Shoshanna would never hesitate. "But what do you make of this super-powers business?" She motioned for them to turn at the corner they were approaching.
She nodded. "I didn't think I would miss many things as much as I do, yes."
There was a lot about her life that she couldn't use, being a Fable and needing to keep it a secret. She was a skilled fencer; Prince Charming had been a good teacher. She had learned to use a gun after having her head blown off; she was working on getting a permit for one here. She may or may not have killed, and that she kept close to her chest, Fable or not.
Creating a whole new persona was tiring sometimes. "Super powers? The idea worries me. I've never met anyone with super powers before back home, so I don't think it's a normal thing. But powers here seem natural, and from what I learned, if you don't have powers back home, you'll gain them here. I'm a little wary about gaining some myself; you don't know what you'll get," Snow said, turning the corner.
"I think just living in a place where you know what to expect when you turn the corner is something to be missed."
She nodded in agreement, pursing her lips. "I don't seem to have gained any new abilities...I am hoping it stays that way, personally." She didn't like the idea that living here would have affected her that much. She'd glanced through a few comic books, and supernatural powers always seemed to cause trouble more than they helped anyone.
"That's very true," she remarked, moving on from the thought. "Though I expect before long we will be just as used to it as everyone else seems to be." She was surprised by the nonchalance with which many people seemed to deal with all the strange goings-on around them.
"Same here. Though they did say it would take awhile...maybe in a month or two, if nothing has happened by then, I won't worry anymore," Snow said, checking to see the number of the building and making sure they still needed to keep moving.
"I hope so. being surprised everywhere you turn just keeps getting tiring after awhile."
"Well, for your sake and mine, let's hope we're both normal." She imagined for a moment the prospect of living with someone with powers; it at least might be interesting, but who knew. Not that it would turn her against her new acquaintance; being hated by half the population of her home country meant she was quite open-minded.
"Mm, it does. I am finally starting to get used to things being so...modern," she offered with a short laugh. "We didn't have any of these new devices back home."
"Anything but making meat grow from the ground," Snow muttered as they finally got to their next apartment look see. She rang the bell, waiting for them to be let up and seen.
"It is a lot of new things. There are a lot of things here we didn't have at home, and I thought we were pretty modern."
She arched an eyebrow at that. "Is there someone who can do that?" she asked incredulously. Shoshanna glanced at the door briefly, taking in the state of the outside of the building. It might be an indicator of the condition of the interior.
"I'm from nineteen forty-four," she said with a little laugh. "We had radios and film projectors and sound recorders, and that was about all."
"No, someone was teasing me when I first got here. Annoyingly teasing," She sighed, folding her arms as she waited.
"So everything is new," She laughed, looking at Shoshanna just when the buzzer rang, a voice asking who it was. Snow gave them the information, and a moment later, they were buzzed into the building.
She let out a huff of laughter. "That's a relief. It would be a ridiculous gift to have." Shoshanna waited while Snow gave the person on the other end of the intercom their information, and then pushed through the door.
"It is," she agreed, as she made her way up the stairs. They were to meet the landlord outside the open apartment, on the third floor. "I still cannot get over the television...it seems too incredible to be real."
"I agree. If I could make meat grow from the ground, I'd become a vegetarian," Snow said sarcastically, knocking on the door when they got there.
"I always forget that the television is so new to some people. I never think about it anymore... but it is a lot better then listening to the radio for everything."

"It might be worth a try, at least."
