Summary: While snooping around SERO's facility, an unsuspecting Hyuuga runs into a snake.
Working for SERO never failed to make Neji uncomfortable. Even though he was technically employed under their banner, that didn't mean he was safe from their surreptitious, curious gazes that lingered too long and never failed to make him feel vaguely ill. His eyes stood out too much and he would have taken the position undercover if not for the risk of running into a Void that would easily unravel any henge he attempted to maintain.
As it was, with Minato and Jiraiya absent, he was only working to preserve his standing with the company. If he left too quickly after joining, they'd be suspicious. Besides, he did volunteer for the position and reconnaissance was the name of the game- his game. And today was one of those rare times that he had an opportunity to access one of SERO's heavily-guarded labs.
It was one of the more secure ones that he couldn't penetrate with his Byakugan because of Void interference, but now that he had direct access to it, he could commit the layout to memory then chart it on his blueprints when he got back home. There was no one standing guard and he didn't feel the presence of anyone inside; an opportunity he couldn't fail to take advantage of. It was a simple matter of poking his head inside, glancing around, and stammering apologies to anyone that might notice him.
Unfortunately, not every mission is as simple as it first seems.
It might have been fine if it were anyone else inside the laboratory. He'd temporarily forgotten that just because he couldn't sense people somewhere didn't mean that there wasn't anyone there when a Void's presence in the area was a significant possibility.
As it was, his heart jammed in his throat as white eyes took in a handful of people, a number of bodies, and someone strapped to a table with a peculiar man standing over him- the one that dominated most of the Jounin's attention.
A snake-like face and sleek black hair, someone that wasn't supposed to be here: Orochimaru. Previously one of Konoha's most prominent threats and someone that knew the true nature of Hyuuga abilities.
