Sectors 7 and 4, morning

Those who are making the daily trek to work are in for a nasty surprise this morning: the monster has arrived back into civilization, and is leaving a trail of destruction and carnage in his wake.

Early morning, sector 7 en route to sector 4. Because Nel is durable gamuzadeclares June 16 2011, 05:47:25 UTC
[After a night of hunting the Darkness monsters out in other sectors, Nelliel has returned home to sector 7. Or at least, that's where she was intending to go when she spots the carnage just a couple of miles from Nueva Las Noches.

This isn't the work of any of the Espada, but given how close to home it is, she can't sit this out. It's within their territory, and she doesn't want anyone in the Espada taking the blame for another's actions.

Fortunately, the trail is easy to follow and Nelliel moves quickly. She finds the culprit a few minutes later. Normally, she might try to talk things out. With someone causing this much havok, it's best to keep it brief and let her weapon do the rest of the talking. Sword drawn, she confronts him. Her tone is deceptively calm, but there's a stern quality to it.]

What do you think you are doing? Identify yourself.

Out of my way.

[snaps back two voices, as Ventus- no, a creature, some sort of monster- hefts the χ-blade in one hand, by the side of his head. getting to the center of the city is his main priority, and, judging by the trail of destruction left behind him, he does not object to using whatever means necessary.]

I am not going anywhere.

[She motions to the destruction behind him.]

And if this is why you want to head to sector 4, I can't let you pass. You should surrender before I am forced to hurt you.

[a brief pause after that last syllable, and Vanitas just starts laughing. all right, then, Nelliel, he's feeling pretty cocky. he doesn't say anything in retaliation once the snickers finally wane; he simply lifts his weapon, aimed at her, a wide and sinister smirk plastered on his face.]

[Nelliel brings her sword up to protect herself. She'll stay on the defensive at first, getting a sense of his fighting style. Once she gauges her opponent's strength, she'll determine an appropriate level of force to use.]

[gauging an opponent's strength is somewhat Vanitas' tactic, too, but, being the prideful boy that he is, he won't be spending much time sizing Nelliel up. a cakewalk, as far as he's concerned.]

[though his style has always been on the stronger side of long ranged. lifting the monstrous blade into the air, he gathers dark energy that pools around the sharp edges of the weapon. he swings the χ-blade in a heavy vertical arc, sending that darkness careening toward Nelliel.]

[Unfortunately for Vanitas but fortunately for her, Nelliel's body is extremely resistant to energy attacks. She's stopped an Espada's cero with her bare hand before, absorbed it, and doubled the power of the attack with her own. The dark energy isn't a cero, but she puts a little bit of her spiritual energy around her fist and deflects the dark energy upward.]

[... all right then, the odd ranged attack likely won't work-- that eliminates quite a bit in Vanitas' repertoire, but the χ-blade has a much longer range than his normal weapon. he can deal.]

[he won't send the dark energy in another blast, another projectile; it forms around his body and the blade as he charges, poised to swipe, to slice Nelliel in half.]

[Nelliel brings her sword up defensively to intercept the blow. The way the energy is charging around her opponent's body tells her that trying to block the slice with her bare hand like she might normally would be a bad idea.

She's not really in the mood for a fight, but if fighting her means that he's not killing civilians, she can deal with it and wear him down.]

[Free. They're finally free and on their way home. Roxas hasn't slept in...he doesn't even know how long, and he's pretty sure there are still tiny shards of glass stuck in his hair, but none of it matters now that they've escaped their enchanted prison. There's still plenty to do, but the important thing is they can do it now. Xehanort will regret everything he's done and then some.

They're just a few blocks away from Riku's apartment when he notices that all is not well. Someone's been this way, and they had a habit of destroying anything that happened to cross their path.

This isn't the result of some random darkness monster.]

Hold on. Something's wrong.

[The amount of damage wrought on this particular section of city is worrisome. Some buildings have entire sections cleanly cut away from them, while others teeter dangerously on skeletons of wood and steel.]

[But destruction has not been done by someone without a purpose. As far as Roxas and Sora can see, it's all headed further into the city, towards its heart.]

[Both boys are weary, running on adrenaline and urgency. But neither if them can ignore this. He turns to Roxas, and then lets his eyes flicker back to the city.]

Yeah. Let's go.

[they'll likely see the blade before they see the wielder, as it crashes down on a nearby vehicle. whether there was someone inside or not is irrelevant; it was simply in the way. he is darting back and forth across the road, the city's veins, more a blur than a person.]

[but there he is. distinctly shaped blond hair, even more distinct suit of darkness.]

[Roxas nearly jumps out of his skin when the blade crushes the vehicle, immediately stepping into a defensive position and summoning his Keyblades.

He nearly drops them when he sees the wielder. The suit is famiiar, the hair more so. And they absolutely do not belong together.

No. No.]

Ven?

It can't be... [Sora's reeling from the sight- Everything seems familiar (the face, that bodysuit), but it's all put together in a way that's just wrong. He only has a few moments of shock and surprise before a lamppost comes crashing down into the side of a building, sending a shower of stone and glass and wood crumbling down into the sidewalk below.]

Come on, we gotta stop em'.

[when Vanitas hears Ven's-- no, his voice-- he stops in his tracks, and turns slowly to face Roxas and Sora. his movement is calm but threatening, and the look on his face is a blending of amused and feral. oh, hello. he never did thank Roxas for that little sandwich burning incident.]
