At 11:00 am a long black hearse, with a tall, glass top, drove out of the
Better Afterlife mortuary, containing a black and red casket, holding the former Governor of Siren’s Port, Victor Redgrave. People from all around the city lined up along sidewalks and the streets to see the hearse drive by. The former governor was meant to be driven for 31 minutes through Turnabout square, giving everyone who wished time to say their good-byes.
At 11:27. protesters appeared, jeering and hissing the specially made hearse, as it came around for its tenth pass. A molotov cocktail was sent flying into the bulletproof glass of the car, shattering and setting a small blaze down the side of the draping on the car. Four more of the protesters appeared within the crowds and attacked the vehicle, setting the hearse’s front tires on fire. Without stopping, the hearse took off at top speeds for the cemetery, the gates closing and locked. The car was driven into the designated building, where it was closed off from the public and safe.
Outside the gates, people protested, screamed, and fought. Police stepped in to protect the property, and to get a handle on the rioters before things got out of hand. This did little to stop the fighting as people seemed to only become more agitated as time went on, and eventually began attacking each other, petty squabbles quickly breaking out in the high tension, when the gates could not be opened. As news of the attacks spread like wild fire so did the fights. People in the city seemed to take it as the go ahead they'd been waiting for to fight since the assassination, and before things could be brought under control the police had full scale riots on their hands.
They broke out in the upper fifth, first, and second sectors, near the garbage and recycling dumps of the Seventh sector, and quickly spilled over into the upper half of the 4th sector. The Underground Mall went into emergency lock down, closing all three doors for a hour, before opening them again to let people in and out, all under heavy watch and security. No outbreaks happened in the Underground mall this time, and it was maintained as a safe haven, all fighting instantly brought under control between the security, volunteers, and the SPPD officers stationed there.
Local businesses were attacked, some broken into, while others were simply set on fire or damaged for affiliations or lack thereof. The SPPD have their hands full and cells packed by the end of the night, they are encouraging people to go to their homes or the nearest safe houses and for everyone to do their part in not starting more chaos. It is also set down through an emergency broadcast that all looters, arsonists, and attackers will be arrested on site. Citizen's Arrest is highly suggested if necessary to stop, cease, or prevent a crime. Though it is cautioned that those abusing Citizen's Arrest will be taken in as well. The SPFD are out and working as fast as they can to put out fires through the upper half of the city.
