After settling on a building and exploring the area around it, along with the stop in at a particularly appealing diner a few blocks away, they made their way quickly to the subway station...and got on only moments before the evening sirens sounded.

Fai cut Sakura a sideways glance as they settled into their seats and bit back a sigh before he offered her a reassuring smile. "I'm sorry, Sakura-chan. I should have paid better attention to the time, but we'll be alright so long as you stay close. I won't let anything happen to you."

Sakura knew that Fai was telling the truth about not letting anything happen to her, but the tears still came. She tried her best to keep them in, but all of her fear turned against her will-power.

She nodded in response to his directions. The belief that everything will be alright if she just stayed close to Fai kept her strong enough not to be a nuisance. She still thought about the possibilities of something going wrong, but at least she had the cards.

The only problem with the cards she had, was that she had yet to tell Fai about them. She knew this world gives people powers, as she kept listening to the feed, but she just wasn't ready to announce her abilities to the world like the rest of the people here.

For a moment, after Fai had slipped an arm around her frail shoulders and he watched those tears fall, he wondered if it'd be best to simply teleport them to his apartment.

Only there were several others in their subway-car and he was still disinclined to use his powers so openly.

Which meant there wasn't much he could do for the moment, save rub her shoulder reassurungly and murmur gently, "It's alright to be afraid and it's okay to cry if you need to, Sakura-chan."

Sakura leaned a bit closer to Fai when he had placed his arm around her shoulders as the tears kept coming. She desperately wanted to be strong, but the horrible memories of what happened inside the house, just made her fear grow ever stronger.

If those monsters were just like the ones inside the house, there is no telling what Sakura would do. They must've been human once, right? If there is one thing she could not do, it would be harming living creatures. Much less ones that were human once.

There wasn't much else Fai could really say right then, so rather than offer her more empty words, he simply rubbed a hand across her shoulder, cast a wary eye about their car, and waited for the subway to pull into the proper station.

Which it did, several stops later.

He bit back a sigh and brought his other hand up to smooth back her bangs as he smiled reassuringly, then nodded to the station as they rolled to a stop. "Just stay close, Sakura-chan, and I promise I will not let anything harm you, alright?"

Sakura nodded, and attempted to put a brave face on. She knew that it was going to be difficult to face her fears, but all she could do now was hope for the best, and that kept her going.

She got up with Fai, clutching her key with one hand. She thought about speaking up about her magical abilities, especially with this type of situation, but Sakura trusted Fai enough to believe that it wouldn't come to that.

As soon as she stepped off the train, she faltered. Maybe she should say something, before something bad happened.

"Um.." She let out, still contemplating.

They were nearly the only people to get off the train at that stop and the others that did so took off at a near run. Fai frowned and glanced down at the child by his side, then the encroaching shadows.

He needed to get them home as quickly as possible, but first, he had to be ready to defend her. So he offered her a reassuring smile and pressed his palms together, twisted them as he drew them apart.

As his hands drew further apart, he revealed a jagged, gleaming, daggertail sword. He held it out to the side, point low, as he reiterated firmly, "It's alright, Sakura-chan. I'll get us home safely so you just stay by my side. Now, let's go."

She knew her hesitation was misinterpreted, and probably for a very valid reason, but she still felt the urge to speak up. She consoled herself of any worries she had about trying to help Fai. After all, he was super powerful, and she was certain that everything would be all right, if she stuck close to Fai.

She still trembled in fear when they had reached the top of the steps. Even feeling that safety Fai guaranteed her, she still felt the anxiety prickle at the back of her eyes.

They'd barely made their way out of the station before Fai caught a glint out of the corner of his eye, felt the brush of an unnatural presence off to his side. He took a quick sidestep even as his wrist flicked just so, the sections of the sword clicking apart.

A sharp snap of his hand sent the serrated blades whipping around, glancing off first one, then another crystalline body of what appeared to be overlarge spiders, ringing out a discordant note with each blow. His free hand went out to rest lightly on her shoulder as he warned, "Sakura-chan, look out!"

Sakura had winced and clasped her hands to her ears when the ringing sound began. These spiders were frighteningly beautiful, but that ringing was just unbearable.

She heeded Fai's advice and looked out for whatever was coming. That ringing sound had to be something, or they would not have made it. It was not long until her fears were confirmed as more came creeping toward them.

"Fai!" She let out, and pointed towards the hoard.

With a curse, he shifted tactics - if he couldn't hit them to kill them, he could possibly do so with a spell. So he shifted to step her back a step and unleashed blast of ice to bind them. It held, but only for a moment as the strange creatures broke through, the sound of the ice shattering off their bodies a cacophonous of chaotic sound that brought even greater numbers.

Several of the little beasts tried to lunge for Sakura, most of which he managed to knock off to the side with the whip, except for the one that cut his arm with a sharp leg. Even more noise as he defended off another wave and called back, "It's no good! I'm going to have to get us out of here, Sakura-chan!"

It was hard for Sakura to stand it anymore. So many things were happening at once, and all she did was just stand there, watching Fai struggle. Her hand was clasped over her key the entire time, but when she watched Fai get his arm hurt, she closed her eyes and yanked on the chain.

"Can you hold them back a moment longer?" She said, as she dropped her key at arm's length. It dangled down from the chain she held. She opened her eyes, and looked Fai directly in the eyes, "I can help."

She began calling for her wand to be released, her gold incantation circle appeared below them, and a strange wind seemed to pick up.

Fai hadn't expected her to use her own magic, yet the brush of it against his senses was unmistakable. It had a similar resonance as the Sakura he knew... and yet, it was more focused, defined and controlled in a different manner entirely.

He spun in a nimble little circle around her, used his own spell to push the growing horde back with a sharp blast of wind, and ignored the added noise from that attack, most of his actual senses trained more on the young lady behind him.

He was curious, after all, just to see what she could do.

With her wand fully transformed, she grabbed it, and spun it. It felt good to have her wand out and ready to do some magic again. It took her a moment to contemplate which card might be the best, considering the hoards that were coming their way.

She had an idea she wasn't too sure would work, but she tried it anyway, grabbing hold the Windy card, she threw it up into the air, and held her wand up to it.

"Windy!" She called, and wished for Windy to herd the spiders together in one big hoard. A dozen or so escaped from Windy's grasps, but a majority of them had been captured, their ringing grew loud as Windy kept hold, so Sakura had to act fast.

"Erase!" she threw up another card, and asked of her, "Please erase those spiders!"

Whatever he was expecting, seeing Sakura using magical cards was not it. While it was no different from memory feathers, or even the source of ones magic being the color of their eyes...

It still caught him off guard just enough to nearly let one of the little beasties near her. Almost, but not quite.

So he simple kicked the spider away with more force than was strictly necessary, sent it barreling through several other, and kept his eye on her cards, to see what they'd do.
