The start of summer prickled on the very edge of his senses. With the city’s monstrosities vanquished and their brittle scent clearing from the air, there were detectable traces of greenery and salt. The well-kept stadium grounds spread in a firm, level plain before and behind him, shadowed in the corners and bright in the center, where the moonlight could spill over the ring of exterior walls. Despite the extreme lateness of the hour, the long fingers of the wind curled warmly around his limbs. The days would grow longer in the coming months, the sky brighter, and the sea calmer. A boon time, one that took him back, far back into the secret archive of his memories ( ... )

"I'm sure you are," Terra answered with more than enough volume to carry his voice through the shadows that crowded the passageway ahead of him. He stepped out onto the grass a moment later. His pace remained even and his features impassive as he strode up the length of the field, making his way toward its center. His eyes were fixed firmly on Xehanort's. The temptation was there to allow his gaze to wander a minute, to sweep his attention about and take in the massive stadium that rose up all around them, a cage of walls and seats and signs with bold letters, but as swiftly as the idea came to him, it was sent away. Even the moon's glow falling in through the open roof, familiar as it was in its iridescence and for the meeting it lit, was paid no heed ( ... )

It would be wholly untrue to claim that he had not entertained the idea that Terra would simply strike at him after his arrival, attempting to carry out his vengeance now that they were in proximity again. This was…oh, it had to be the third or four time, some small number that was testament to the ongoing polite antagonism of their dealings. But this one was entirely without innocent bystanders or, he suspected, the possibility of interruption by their own design. Terra would never tell his dear friends where he had gone and only Vanitas was ever privy to even a portion of Xehanort’s actions and location ( ... )

The remark that he didn't need an explanation of the seal's inner workings deepened his frown, but Terra let the comment go when Xehanort went on. Questioning the corrupt Master wouldn't do him any good in the grand scheme of things: Terra had never been the sort to pick spells apart. Yes, he had access to a wide variety of magic, along with those two base seals, but he couldn't claim he fully understood the finer details that went into their creation. Precise balances of energy, long equations and countless diagrams. He'd paged through the books his Master had assigned him for reading material, but all the notes were brushed aside in favor of actual experience using the magic. Spells were a matter of instinct and practice to him, feeling the energy rather than measuring it ( ... )
