[ He notices the blankness of her eyes, but it's hard to concentrate on just that when his own threatens to glaze over just the same. Bruce doesn't drink much coffee - he prefers to rely on his own willpower to keep awake. But he's still human, and he hasn't slept in- in so long that he doesn't actually remember the date (and that's troublesome- he needs to find out when it is... later).

Bruce takes a long, meditative breath, and he pushes away the urge to sleep. Concentrate- is that someone walking along the side of the building? He scowls- why are people being so stupid about being out in the Darkness?

When he speaks, his voice is a little rough. ]

Four o'clock. Darkness monster closing in around two hundred meters away. Take care of the civilian.

[ And he's flying down to take out the monster. ]

[ Her eyes are snapping fully open as soon as he speaks, and she's hopping to her feet a second after. Orders. Danger, orders, all that. That'll help keep her awake.

She's off her perch immediately, not even bothering with a grappling line. It's just a mad leap and an easy drop (when you've got density-lightening going on), after all. She lands directly in front of the startled woman, already smiling cheerfully. ]

Kinda late to be out, isn't it?

[ The woman starts to stammer some response, but after a quick glance over her shoulder to check the boss's progress, Carrie's already leading her off. There's a Darkness-proofed café just a couple blocks away, that'll be her goal. Her hopefully unobstructed goal. ]

[ There's a reason why he sends her after the woman - if Bruce has to speak with civilians right now, he's going to punch them in the face for endangering their lives so blatantly. He sighs to himself even as he lands in front of the monster, sweeping out a kick to the chest, followed back a punch strange against what looks like the throat. Then he's to follow up with-

The world tips a little to the side. Just- a little- and he hisses when the rope nearly hooks around his neck. He ducks immediately, rolls away, one hand slamming against the floor.

Damn, damn, damn, that was close. That was stupid- what just happened- no time to ponder about it. Bruce growls low in his throat, flipping a knife out from his belt. It's a long-bladed thing, and Bruce swipes it around him, slicing a huge slash down the monster's chest.

It howls. He breathes, stares it down. Glances back- okay, Carrie's a distance off. Good. ]

[ She rounds the corner, woman still in tow, and-- yes, there's the café. Good. She's so fixed on it that she doesn't notice the bitter child, almost directly in their path. It takes the woman slowing, voicing some frantically confused mumble, and suddenly Carrie's blinking into seeing it.

Oh. Shoot. Close as they are, fast as they're going, there's just one thing she can think of to do.

A quick ram of her shoulder shakes the woman off-balance, and Carrie doesn't hesitate to scoop her up over her shoulder. Powers at work again. She looks a little ridiculous, being about half the woman's size, but it is what it is. She uses her powers next for a huge leap, almost a glide, that vaults them over the thing's head and at the door to the coffee shop. There she grins and sets the woman down again. ]

I'd suggest the Mocha. Real nice at 3 AM.

[ Then with a quick shove to get the shaken lady in throuh the doors, she's off, leaping up to scale the building directly overhead before the child can figure out where they went. ]
