[The police are, if nothing else, persistent in their work. Shinji's slipped by SERO time and time again and she knows that the company has pushed them to do this job. And with a large truck waiting for them, and Shinji in custody, Re-l wishes she could be pleased about it.

They load him in easily enough, his hands clamped down with heavy cuffs. Re-l gets in back with him, shotgun strapped to her thigh. She refuses to use it but it's just a precaution.

She sits across from him, trying not to look so tense. Every time she looks at his face, she can see him smirking at her. She can still feel his knife on her fingers.]

[The casual demeanor that is second nature to Shinji has come back, the strike of anger and resistance to the capture only lasting a moment. The striking pain through his arm reminds him that he's powerless in their hands. But there's no fear; his gait not losing an ounce of its confidence. The metal of the truck isn't exactly comfortable, but he leans back against it where he's sat.

His eyes watch her, a kin of that grin stretching itself over his lips. He can remember her voice clearly, the feeling of those fingers as they twitched reflexively before being removed. Slouching his shoulders, he shifts in the shackles to try and remove the pulling, wrenching pain of his displaced arm. His head tips back as he goes so far as to kick one ankle over the other (he would cross his legs completely if there wasn't a binding there as well). Predatory eyes watch her as his lip tugs up and shows a flash of white.]

You're gonna ride with me? I feel like I should be flattered.

[Her eyes narrow as the doors close and she leans over to knock on the side of the vehicle so the drivers can hear. They start the engine while she sits back down, keeping her eyes trained on his face. She's not afraid of him but she can't help the tension in her shoulders any more than she can help the ice in her gaze.]

Don't be. It's not a pleasure cruise.

[The almost-glare only earns her a chuckle from him as his head rocks to the side. A gaze cast toward the ceiling of the truck, around the edges, searching blatantly for any indication of something that could be used for escape. Nothing. Back to Re-l and he lets his body relax further despite the sudden jolt of the truck as it sets off.

The scorching heat in his stare locks onto her trained attention and remains, as if attempting to burn holes through her pupils. At the same time, nothing in his posture denotes anger.]

Oh, I know it's not. But it makes me curious as to why you're here.

I'm an officer. Why else would I be here?

[In part, it's closure. Beyond that, she just wants to see him behind bars. It's petty and selfish, but she wants him to be in prison. She wants to see him suffer. It's in part why she's asked anyone she's seen to not hurt him, to not kill him.

Kazuhiko's still in there.]

Revenge.

[A simple explanation. Something he'd understand more than whatever nonsense most people would spout about crime and punishment. The corner of his mouth tugs up again, voice gaining a mocking air.]

Police brutality wouldn't be unheard of in this situation.

[She frowns sharply, defensive.]

I'm not going to hurt you. That's unprofessional and I won't stoop to your level.

[Another laugh, enough to make his shoulders shake.]

My level? Least you can do is finish the job yourself.

[Her eyes narrow.]

You didn't finish the job. None of you did. You can't imagine that I find those very hard standards to live up to, Shinji.

[His eyes darken a bit, the smirk gaining that razor edge. His voice singsongs quietly when he speaks.]

If you feel so upset about it, I could finish it right now. Pick up where I left off, I wouldn't mind.

[Her expression never changes despite the threat.]

I'd like to see you try.

[So familiar, that stern expression in his regard, cold and yet not. And there's a good idea why. The threat doesn't leave despite the flux in tone.]

I'd like to see you give it a try. You threw me pretty easily, now this? I'd say you have potential.

I might be capable, but that doesn't mean that I'm going to act on it.

[A killer has a compulsion and acts on it. She does not.]

[Everyone has a compulsion, he's seen what he believes is hers.]

Why wouldn't you act on it? [As if it were truly a baffling idea.]

Because killing isn't necessary to get a point across. Besides, it's pointless in a city where you can potentially come back to life. It defeats the purpose of it being a punishment.

[The truck slows to a stop at a stop light and Re-l looks over just in case. She leans back against the wall behind her.]
