Although his employees had done their best to remain by his side through this illness, they couldn't be present at every moment. Rin had departed for school and Jack, having run out of food, had left to acquire some more. That left Madara completely alone. And although solitude was something he normally quite enjoyed, he could enjoy it less now. With no eyes of his own, he needed another to act as his guide and his guardian. Without such a person, every sound made him jump, and he felt lost in this endless darkness. Even lying in bed, he felt as though swimming and drifting with no chance of orientation ( ... )

Even with Phibrizzo trying to learn to control his newfound abilities better, his only real success in containing them had been reducing the area of effect. He had cut the thirty feet radius in half over the past few days. Even so, fifteen feet was more than enough. The Siren's Port General Hospital staff would either place a patient near him or have him sit near a patient, and in a short time, that patient was greatly improved ( ... )

Something began to tug him back to coherency almost immediately. Some wave of relief, almost like a medic's chakra but less direct and only a sliver of that power. Not near enough to cure him, if a cure was even possible. But it did chase away his nightmares for a moment and trick his body into believing Madara was still its master. Shuddering, he flexed his fingers and then turned his face toward... whoever it was that had just entered.

Madara did not immediately connect the sudden surge of renewed strength with the boy's presence. He was distracted, rather, by the sound of the boy's voice. Without his eyes, with no image to connect to that voice, Madara couldn't help but picture his little brother there. His sweet little brother, come to visit him before his death.

"Leave us," he snapped to the nurse, although the bite was taken out of it because he could barely manage a wheezing whisper, let alone a growl. Still, his voice became softer when he addressed the child: "Hello, most precious one..."

"How are you feeling?" asked Phibrizzo. Not well was the obvious answer, but without his usual powers it was difficult to tell how close Madara was to death.

He let out a little more of the healing energy he was only partially successfully bottling in, letting it wash over Madara. Some of it rolled off of him in a general radius, but it seemed like as good a time as any to try working on his aim. Until his powers were back to normal, he was as vulnerable to the darkness monsters as anyone else. With his shoddy control, there was a smaller consisstent flow of the energy, and some that came in rhythmic surges.

"My powers changed so I can heal people just by sitting near them now," he said, offering a brief explanation.

"Incredible," Madara uttered, not in response to the inquiry about his well-being but to the latter, the boy's power. It was... useful, to say the least. But more important was the relief it gave to him. "You've far more talent than any of these clowns. And these are supposedly the best medics this city has to offer, do you know that? Second to SERO, I suppose...

"Oh, but I should not even be in a place like this." With a sigh, he rolled his head back against his pillows, turning an empty gaze to the ceiling. Whatever joy he felt at the healing wave melted away just as quickly. "Would that they had left me in my own house and my cleansing waters. Izuna, they do not understand. These children; they believe I am being unreasonable. They are blessed to have been born into peace, but naive about the truth. My enemies roam these halls."

Izuna? Was that a term of endearment where Madara came from? Or was he mistaking Phibrizzo for someone else? It was hard to tell, so he listened patiently to Madara's ranting, moving a little closer to the man. Judging by his body language, Phibrizzo suspected he wasn't in any particular danger, no matter what warnings he might have received from the nurse.

The joy disappearing was a relief to Phibrizzo. Its absence was comforting to be around. Most people got increasingly happy as their bodies recovered. Madara's had been short lived, and Phibrizzo's resulting feeling of nausea had passed just as quickly.

"Who are your enemies, Madara? I can stay with you and help you get stronger as long as you need me to."
