If there was one thing Seth was really, really good at, it was putting up a front.  In more ways than one.  From one day to the next, over the course of 900 years and still counting, she wore a million different faces, portrayed a million different characters.  "Empress" and "weapon of war" were just her main roles.

There was also "tea seller."  "Flower seller."  "Medical student."  "Socialite."

Although it was mainly for necessity, she found it amusing; exhilirating, even, to be in disguise.  Because she could play the game of "now you see me---now you don't."  She remembered one of her courtiers saying that she was like a butterfly---beautiful and graceful, but elusive.

So it was of no surprise that once again, she was playing yet another part.  But she had a fellow actor this time, even if he seemed flustered by the idea at first.  Allen couldn't really be that kind and selfless, could he? He had a darker side, right?

Seth chuckled to herself, looking appropriately frail but striking in her fairly skimpy black minidress over which she wrapped herself in a faux gray fur jacket.  The role of "slave."  She had the deactivated collar back at her apartment---she didn't want to intimidate Allen anymore than he was already.

But she was looking forward to perhaps seeing a glimpse of that hypothetical dark side.
