White eyes opened gradually, blinking tiredly in the dark room with the will to sleep blanketing his thoughts in a hazy, drug-induced fog. He groaned, shifting and moving to sit up, actively fighting the sedatives that lingered in his system as he pushed himself to wakefulness.

Veins slid to his eyes, the midnight blue of evening washing into a deep gray in the darkest corners of the room. Chakra entered his field of vision, confirming his placement in a hospital in Sector 3 and his vision turned back to the inside of the room, noting the familiar chakra signature resting next to him, her fingers keeping a firm grip on his left wrist in her sleep.

He pressed his palm to his forehead only to find it wrapped in a layer of bandages and frowned, fingering the folds of fabric and trying to feel for the damage underneath.

Upon being admitted to the hospital, he recalled stubbornly refusing hands anywhere near the area- the pain and unwanted reminders still too new for complacency- and the nurses had been forced to sedate him in order to treat him. Grudgingly, he accepted the necessity of their actions but still couldn't view them without some level of bitterness.

Nothing felt out of place, but pain was absent- likely due to painkillers than anything else- and while the urge to tear them off just to see the damage was tempting, he recalled the dead skin that tore off before and wasn't in the mood to repeat it for the sake of curiosity.

Neji sighed, leaning back against the pillows and grateful for whatever medication allowing him to feel centered enough to relax.
