It had taken him a bit of time to find the place. Even with his walks around the city, it was difficult to memorize things, and instructions could only help so much. But Japan was never one to leave late, and so he arrived early, still, stepping through the door at about six minutes before the meeting time.

It wasn't difficult to spot Tamaki, either. His hair was so bright-- it was still something he both envied and found odd in westerners-- and that look on his face was rather attention-drawing, as well. The small man moved forward and bowed rather nervously. An interview...! And one that had seemed so serious. "Why in a pancake house, though..." Well, there was no time for thoughts like that.

"Ah, greetings!" He sputtered, and then stared at the chair in hesitation. Should he sit? Should he wait? He was already waiting, wasn't he...!

Tamaki jumped his feet immediately, moving around the table to offer his hand to Mr. Japan. Well--a bow, first! It was difficult to adjust, he had been so long in Canada, but bowing was customary, of course, and one must always do whatever one can to put everyone else at ease.

And now he offered his hand. "Mr. Japan, a pleasure, a real pleasure to see you! I am so glad that you could make it to this job interview--are you surprised that I am the one interviewing you? Ah, and how do you feel about commoner's coffee? I already ordered a cup for you, but I also ordered tea, since I thought you might be more comfortable with that!"

More than a little shocked, Japan hesitated nervously before taking Tamaki's hand for a handshake. How startling! How western! Ahh, was he doing it right? There were too many worries, so in order to pay attention to Tamaki properly, he shoved them aside. At least his face did not stray too far from a lineface in this sort of situation.

Right, the fact that Tamaki was interviewing... It hadn't quite sounded that way over the phone, but-- ah, wait, was he already asking another question? Japan frowned a little and nodded slowly.

"Ah... Thank you for such an opportunity..." Tamaki-san. Was that okay to say in this situation? Their first meeting had had the request of being casual, but was it the same here? Gosh, getting used to all of this was difficult! "I have not tried coffee before. I had been considering it before my arrival here, however."

"Considering it? What an interesting way to phrase such an opportunity!" Tamaki sat back in his chair, leaning forward across the table with an air of complete interest. "Ah, but--yes, of course, you're welcome--but there's no need to thank me for the interview! It's the least that I could do, to help a friend--and of course, I must confess, my own interest in sharing a meal with you might have guided my mind a little, ahaha!"

He paused to take a sip of his own commoner's coffee, momentarily closing his eyes to revel in the taste. Was there anything better than commoner's coffee? Well, yes, was the obvious answer. Commoner's coffee that was brewed by one's dear daughter--but this was the next best thing!

He pushed the other mug over toward Mr. Japan, smiling. "Here, this one is meant for you--if you've never had coffee before, you should consider adding sugar or cream to it, of course, simply because you might not enjoy the bitter taste. And then we can begin your interview!"
