"You actually know 'em?" Yosuke blinked a few times at Shinji. Well, he supposed that everyone knew of them, so he shouldn't be that surprised. Still, he at least had enough sense to resist saying how much he absolutely adored them -- not that he hadn't already let it be known that he did by searching for a fighting game that reminded him of said show. I suppose I could blame them for giving me the idea of wanting to be a hero. Is that blame or a thank you? He laughed softly to himself but added aloud, "I dunno how much fun that will be. Fighting games aren't much fun to watch unless you're beating the other person into submission."
Digging around the bag, he wondered why they were ignoring the elephant in the room. Being asking if he was all right yet about Aki. How he was holding up. He scratched the top of his head as he tried to look more confused about what he was searching for than trying to think up how to bring up said topic. Souji would know how to do so easily. A lot of his other friends, too, he supposed. Another sigh as he finally pulled out one of the horror videogames that he had picked up. No series that he knew, but it looked scary enough from the cover.
"Here, I'll play this. You can be my navigator."

At the question about Phoenix Ranger, though, he gave Yosuke a blank look. "...It comes on every Sunday, don't it? Kids're nuts about that shit," And an eyeroll for good measure. he really wasn't that big on most pop culture, though, so his brushing off Featherman was probably only to be expected. He shrugged at the mention about fighting games. "Dunno how much fun it'd be against me, anyway."
Maybe when he was a kid he had dropped a few quarters in an arcade machine if the (rare) opportunity had presented itself, but that was different. Other than 'slam on the buttons until something happens', he had no idea how fighting games operated, and watching Yosuke get smug about beating him over and over would just piss him off. It was much, much easier to just avoid that scenario all together.
At the new suggestion, he nodded. Really, he was simply interacting on face level. It had been a while since he'd actually spent time with Yosuke, and whether it was just from him being a social failure, or a combination of Mitsuru's death and the rest of SEES's departure, leaving only himself and Minako, it was difficult to muster up the effort to care more. He liked Yosuke-- he did. The other man was a dumbass, yeah, but a decent enough friend, and good for alternately yelling at and having an actual conversation with.
But if he were to disappear next... Shinjiro rolled a shoulder and ignored the thought. As far as he knew, Yosuke probably would disappear. It seemed as though only people with nowhere left were able to stay, after all, and from what he understood, Yosuke still had some kind of home away from here.
"Navigator? Sure, sounds easy enough. So what, keep track of where you're going?" At least it made it more interesting. "You played it before?"

"It's not just for kids, you know." A responding blank expression greeted Shinji. In a manner that was quietly telling him to knock that shit off. Somehow, he felt that if he did not do so that he would be hearing about how he killed a kids' show til the end of time. "What do you mean? You're a pretty good fighter in the real world. I don't think that it's not that much different." Minus the fact that it was not so much pushing buttons as it was doing it all himself. Either way, his point still stood. Target your enemy and spam with attacks until it keels over.
"Keep track of where I'm going and tell me where I should go." He added. Usually, he had pretty good navigational sense on where it is that he should go, but that was mostly because the games were pretty linear. It was the backtracking that was always a pain. Returning his gaze at the box cover, he shook his head. "Nope. I haven't really gotten around to it so we can experience it together." With his free hand, he waved it about in a manner to show just how excited he was about it.
"Loading up." Picking up the controller after the disc was inserted, he nodded slightly to himself. "I'll let it get past the introductory nonsense like who it is from and whatnot." Yosuke explained as he turned on the television next, waiting a few seconds before flipping to the proper input so that they could play it together. A few seconds later on the black screen there was a loud, agonized scream. Which prompted Yosuke to chuck the controller down to jump backward. "Ah!"
Yeah, he had not been expecting that - and looked back to see if Shinji reacted in the same way.

At the comment of his Shadow/Mosnter-fighting somehow applying to fighting game,s he snorted. "I doubt you want the controller through your console." He was good at hitting things with other, typically blunt things. Swinging an axe or hammer into something really didn't take much of a clue to figure out. Stupid button combination and sequencing did. "What the hell about fighting monsters and playing a damn game ain't so different?"
No, really, he wanted an answer for that.
He shook his head, settling back to watch as Yosuke explained and turned on the game, considering flipping down the blinds-- it looked dark, and it was hard as fuck to see because of it. "Don't say 'experience it together', it sounds gay," He noted casually, before suddenly stiffening at the shrill scream. It didn't so much frighten him as it did alert him, brows creasing as he glanced at the screen.
....And then to Yosuke, farther back and controller-less. He let out a sudden, rough laugh at the reaction, shaking his head. "Aw, shit. Really, Yosuke?" He reached over to shove the other man lightly, before pushing the controller back at him. It had been sudden, yeah, but nothing compared to the things he and Yosuke both had been through, right? He laughed again, "You piss on my bed, and I'll beat you, I swear it."

The rest of the conversation was put on hold after he threw the controller down. As for the answering laugh from Shinji, it was not really the most comforting as sounds. He did take the controller back with more than a little bit of a huff. "I'm calling it right now. No gay. Nothing said is gay from this point on, except if it comes from you." It was bit of a late jab at him, but he couldn't help but want to regain some of his pride that he lost some of his pride.
"And to answer your previous question, you're fighting to gain experience for the next fight. Picking up whatever might drop that could be helpful. Though, you seem to go the Kronk route and give the pieces to people, but same idea." Yes, he was deliberately ignoring the fact that he had a bit of a freak-out. Clicking through the usual menu screens, he would accept the fact that he was startled and leave it at that. Yeah, fuck you, game. I'll give you that, but I'm not done yet!

It was a damn TV after all. Definitely not the most important thing in the world.
Shinjiro waved a hand at Yosuke calling 'no homo'. "Yeah, whatever. I ain't the one saying awkward shit like that anyway." Which was true, he liked to think. Yosuke was always the one getting defensive about that sort of thing, anyway.
His brows furrowed- he pretty much understood that up until the 'kronk route' comment, though opted not to ask. "And try not to flip out playing it." His lips curved in a short smirk. he had a feeling Yosuke's reactions would be more entertaining than the game. "And if you need it, I bet Minako or someone'd let you borrow a teddy bear so you don't get too scared. You're still gonna have to go home to sleep, though."

"Flip out while playing it." He repeated it in a mocking manner, but he was annoyed that the other was not remotely freaked out about it. Yes, he could handle the Darkness and the Shadows with relative ease, but when it came to pixelated monsters -- Yosuke was not the braves of gamers.
Clicking through intro video and start screen, he tilted his head if he wanted to do Easy, Normal, or Hard. To save his pride, he decided to choose Hard as what they should do. I swear that you are going to freak out first, you--! His grip on the controller tightened that much more as he wouldn't allow himself to lose to either game or Shinji.
"Oh, is that so? You sure that you don't want me to stay here and make sure that you can get to sleep."

The game started, he shifted to get comfortable, crossing his arms behind his head as he laid back. "Fuck that. I'd have to kick Roland off the bed to make room for your fat ass." And Roland pissed him off less. Then again, the same could be said for nearly anyone. "If you're lucky you can take the couch downstairs. maybe the tub."
But definitely not in his room. That would be too weird.
