Sometimes being covered in fur is awesome )
Honestly, the last thing he remembered from home was a fifteen minute struggle through deep snow and along a slippery cliffside path - just before crossing his burning bridge - and with the return of the snow to the city Phoenix was remembering just how hard life could be when winter set in. In the city it wasn't usually so bad, but his office was cold, outside was cold, his apartment was cold, and to add insult to injury his hot water heater had packed up, meaning that even a hot shower was impossible. That was why he was out today, hunting a flow pipe and valve to get the boiler fixed.
Obviously that meant he was bundled up completely, a huge coat over the top of his suit, a pair of mittens, a scarf and earmuffs clipped over - but not destroying - his hair. Still, he couldn't help but smile when he saw the dog playing in the snow. At least something - other than Maya, that was - could enjoy the low temperatures.

Humans couldn't understand canine speech of course, but Sam was pretty sure bending low on his front paws, his butt and tail still high in the air, was a universal sign.
Play!

"You want to play?"
A handful of snow from the hood of a nearby car made a good hard snowball, and Phoenix tested it by throwing it slightly and catching it again.
"Ball?"
Because even if the dog spoke French it would recognise the word 'ball', right? Phoenix smiled, then threw the snowball along the sidewalk, heading after it. If he remembered right there was a park this way, wasn't there?

But he wasn't expecting the snowball (more a ball of ice, really) to keep its shape after Phoenix tossed it. Sam's ears perked in surprise, and he trotted after the attorney with curiosity, bending to look where it had landed. Well I'll be damned, it's still in one piece.
Although really, he shouldn't have expected that luck to continue when he tried to take it in his mouth. The shepherd shook his head and awkwardly licked snow off his muzzle. Whoops.

"Not impressed, are you boy?" Phoenix shook his head. "No, I guess I wouldn't be either." What we really need is a stick... Something that didn't seem to be available in the depths of the city...
He came back, moving over to sit beside the dog and putting his hand on his neck. "No collar, huh? How are we going to get you home?"

"I'm going to be covered in fur when I get back to the office, do you know that? I bet you think a little bit of fur improves my suit, don't you?"
It was nice to talk to a dog... You could be honest with them, and they never judged.
