Who: Yagami Light and Tesla When: February 22nd, night Where: Stairwell, tower 1 Summary: Tesla wants Light to stay the hell away from Nnoitra. Warnings: Roughing up, a little bloodletting.
It had taken Tesla a while to find out just who the man he'd seen talking with Nnoitra-sama was, but once he had, Tesla knew he had to do something. It was his instinct, hell, it was in his very nature to be jealous and hateful and mean to something that had what he wanted.
Or might take what he wanted away from him. And that was what this weak little human seemed to want to do. Nnoitra-sama was his, damn it. They'd gone through too damn much together for some scrawny little human to bust in on it.
He'd been feeling extremely poor about himself today --another job interview had gone badly for him, and he knew that if he didn't find an apartment and a job soon, Nnoitra-sama would be furious with him. He might even leave and find someone else that could provide for him. All in all, Tesla was feeling extremely low about himself.
So seeing the human he despised so much walking past him in the hallway was almost like a gift to Tesla. An opportunity to take out some of the frustration building inside was a wonderful present from whatever gods there might be. He waited until Light had finished whatever silly business he'd hadand had turned around, headin back toward the stairs. When he was out of sight of whoever he'd been speaking with, Tesla moved, grabbing the skinny human by the shoulder and slamming him up against the wall.
Before Light could blink, Telsa had his weapon out, the spiked handguard pressed against his throat. One move and the savage metal would rip through the skin of his neck, tearing his throat open. And Tesla would make sure to do it slowly, so that Light suffered for the injustices he had caused Tesla.
"Just what do you think you're doing with him?" He growled, pressing the metal against Light's tender skin.
There was very little to better describe Light's sudden predicament but 'dazzling'; the kind of dazzling that left stars dancing in front of his eyes, and made him feel dangerously light headed. Whatever had struck him back against the wall had incredible strength, and it took some serious effort to blind away the bright lights so that he could see, a hollow sound ringing in his ears.
From faraway he thought he heard the stranger's words, and he certainly felt the blade at his throat, but it took a little longer for his mind to catch up; all of his senses to slot neatly back into place.
"Doing with whom?" he asked, ever so softly. He could do nothing but stay absolutely still, his hands down at his sides. There was still the piece of Death Note but... No. He wouldn't use it unless it was absolutely necessary, and he didn't know this man's name. "This is surely a misunderstanding..."
Tesla applied just a little more pressure, just enough to dimple the skin of Light's throat. "Nnoitra Jiruga." He said, eye narrowed as he glowered at Light.
"There is no misunderstanding, I assure you. I saw you speaking with him." He pressed harder, blood welling up where the spike dug into the flesh. "I heard him ask you to be his fraccion. What, exactly, do you think you're doing with him?"
"I am his fraccion. You are nothing, you are not fit to even lick dogshit from the soles of Nnoitra-sama's boots, human!"
Light didn't dare move. The blade at his throat cut into the skin, and it was enough just to hiss in pain. He didn't dare breathe, and it would be hard to speak without forcing the blade in deeper, but unless he did so he would be skewered - perhaps even killed - and that was certainly not in his plans, especially his plans for the first day of work.
"Coursenot," he forced out, quickly. Then "Explain".
'I am his fraccion' the guy had said. Nnoitra's servant, just like that strange scientist, Grantzy, had been speaking about. He didn't intend to be anyone's servant, as he would explain to Tesla if he got a chance.
Explain? Explain? Why would he have to explain anything to a human?! Nevertheless, he thought it would be wise to do so, so that the idiot human would begin to be able to grasp the severity of the situation. "Nnoitra-sama is my master, my Espada. I serve him, and only I serve him. Do you understand that, human?"
The fingers of his left hand dug into Light's shoulder, grating the bones there together. "I have worked too long and too hard to obtain my position to be usurped by some miserable whelp like you. I have sacrificed too much! And I will not let you take my place."
Tesla's face was as hard as stone as he looked down at Light. "I will kill you before I let that happen. Stay away from Nnoitra Jiruga or I will kill you."
It was an effort not to make a sound, nor to breathe too hard in pain and risk cutting his own throat. The hand on his shoulder closed like a vice, and he was certain that the bones would shatter if much more pressure was put on him.
Do you feel like a god now, Light? Want to go home yet?
No. This world would not beat him.
"I'll talk," he said, cringing. His sense of self-preservation was kicking in. There were things he could say to make himself safe, but in order to say them, he would have to be released. His eyes opened, unyieldingly fixed on Tesla's, and he forced himself to speak again. "Let me go."
Tesla scowled, his grip loosening on Light's shoulder. He withdrew the sword from his throat, sliding it back into the sheath on his back. But he did not let go of Light's shoulder, no matter how much his hold lightened.
"Well?" He asked, darkly. "Speak, human. What do you think you're trying to do with Nnoitra-sama?"
The sword at his throat was withdrawn, and the grip on his shoulder loosened - which actually only made it more painful - but Light did nothing more than bring his hand to his throat to check the bleeding. He could still speak without the risk of ripping anything open... Did this guy have teeth on his head?
"I'm sure it must be an honour to be Nnoitra's fraccion, but know that I would never consider invading the position. Surely you can see that I'm of no threat to you? I'm harmless, and I have no interest in becoming a servant to anyone."
He kept his eyes up, but his head lowered submissively, trying to look as pathetic as possible without giving up ground. He wasn't going anywhere in a hold like this, and he'd seen how fast Nnoitra could move.
"Nnoitra's remark can't have been serious -- why would he want me when he has you?"
Tesla arched his eyebrow as Light began to babble on, trying to say anything to save his life. He shook his head. Tesla could not believe that anyone would not want to serve under Nnoitra, the strongest Espada there was.
So that had to mean that Light was lying to him, just talking to try and soothe him. And the back-handed compliment just cemented Tesla's paranoid idea.
He slammed the other man into the wall, denting the plaster. "Shut up." He said, sharply. "Don't patronize me. I know what you're trying to do, Light. And you should know this." He pointed one gloved finger at the young man's face. "If you come anywhere near Nnoitra-sama again, I will find out. And if I find that out..."
He hit the wall again, and this time found himself dazed. If this kept up, the shock would probably kill him. The man was strong, and clearly dedicated to his master. Not quite as dumb as he'd expected, either.
"He wants me to outwit someone called 'Grantzy'," he hissed, dropping his eyes away now. "And I am doing what I was asked because I have no choice. He'll kill me if I attempt to avoid him, and you'll kill me if I fail to do so."
Light raised his eyes as best as he could. "I'll do my best to stay away from him. Will you accept that much?"
That just made things worse, didn't it? If he kept Light away from Nnoitra after Nnoitra had asked him to do something as important as that, then it might come back on him. He scowled, looking down at Light and trying to think of a way out of this. He didn't want Nnoitra-sama getting too friendly with this pathetic little human.
But he couldn't just keep him away if he'd been asked to do something. He lessened his grip on his shoulder. "You will answer to me if you manage to complete your task. You will stay as far away from Nnoitra as you possibly can. And when you've done what he wants you to do... you will never speak to him again!"
Clearly he'd come up with the right thing to say, but now he had to keep it up. If he said the wrong thing, his already injured shoulder was going to face worse punishment.
"I can think of nothing better," he hissed. "Then you get what I want, and I get what I want." That wasn't entirely true.
Light hesitated, lifting his eyes toward Tesla. "Nnoitra's extremely strong, and so are you. That's all I wanted. This place is dangerous, and I can't fight the monsters. If I stay away from him as a favour to you...will you consider protecting me, in the unlikely chance that I need it?"
It was quite a risk to take - he had to hope that Tesla's wish for him to stay away from Nnoitra was worth such a thing.
Tesla scoffed at the human's request. Protection. What did this being think he was, a bodyguard to be hired? But-- but if Nnoitra-sama had given him a task to do...
Tesla thought about it, looking away from Light. If he 'protected' him... then what? Well, then he could go about Nnoitra-sama's business quickly and efficiently and Tesla could dispatch him soon after he was done. Of course, he wouldn't reveal that to Light... not until he was ready to kill the human for interfering with Nnoitra-sama.
He nodded, slowly. "Should you require protection during your... duties for Nnoitra-sama, I will lend a hand."
And when Light had completed his task, Tesla would simply get rid of him.
"That's all I ask," he answered, softly. "It's unlikely to be a necessity, but there is a possibility that your carelessness will disrupt Nnoitra's plans none the less. If they do--" He raised his eyes. "--I'll be certain to tell him who was responsible."
This was a much better way of doing things. He closed his eyes, trying to be as calm as possible, and when he opened them, he felt considerably better. "Now let me go. It would be better that we not see each other again."
Light must have been particularly stupid to say something like that. Tesla squeezed his shoulder much, much harder, raising his hand and curling it into a fist.
The wind whipped by Light's head and plaster dust might have gotten into his eye as Tesla slammed his fist through the wall, past the plaster and insulation, breaking the wooden stud and finally through the other side of the wall.
"You do not threaten me." He hissed, as he withdrew his hand, grabbing Light by the head and forcing him to look at the destruction he had done. "Your skull is not much harder than that. Remember that! I could destroy you without even trying, asshole!"
There was...an odd rushing sound in his ears. For a moment the shock was too much - pain, and the flying plaster and dust inches from his face. Startled, he stared upward, making no effort - as if he could - to pull away when his head was turned around.
"I'll remember," he agreed, breathlessly. "My apologies."
This was dangerous -- how had he ended up involved with these two again?
Or might take what he wanted away from him. And that was what this weak little human seemed to want to do. Nnoitra-sama was his, damn it. They'd gone through too damn much together for some scrawny little human to bust in on it.
