Gaara was no cook, but he had some experience in the kitchen before, helping his sister. There was mutual agreement between the siblings that Kankuro wasn’t allowed in the kitchen, for fear of residual poison from his puppets. Fortunately, tofu dishes weren’t too complicated to make, and he composed a list of other ones to attempt, after this night ( ... )

Dark eyes returned to the flickering light, before turning back up to Gaara with a perturbed look on his face.

"I don't know what to wish for," he admitted.

He stayed silent, trying to remember if the book had given any further instructions on the birthday wish. “…Anything you want,” he encouraged quietly, “If not a physical item, then something that you would like to happen, perhaps.”

His hand lifted and set atop Sai’s shoulder to give him a reassuring squeeze.
