[Tifa always tried to show up early to these kinds of things, she liked to help out as much as she could. So here she is with a steaming bowl of stuffing and a second bowl of potato salad. She'll find a place to settle them and try to help out in the kitchen as much as she can, while occasionally drifting out to the living room to be social.]

[Erik has pretty much taken over the kitchen, wishing to avoid the grills. Seeing a young woman bring in food, he smiles.]

Hello, welcome, and thank you. [He smiles warmly.] Cold there, hot there, [he points them out] and if you stay too long, I'll put you to work.

[Tifa puts her dishes where indicated and grins up at him, flexing one arm.] That's why I'm early, I wanted to lend a hand.

[She puts one out to him now.] I'm Tifa.

Help is always welcome. As is a sous chef. [He takes her hand in his, it's calloused and strong] Michael Xavier.

[Her own is calloused around the knuckles, worn from years behind the bar and in combat. She smiles broadly at him.] It's a pleasure to meet you Mr. Xavier. Although...I don't know what a soo chef is. I'm not from this world...natively.

[She smiles sheepishly.]

Michael is fine. [He places a hand, respectfully on her shoulder, leading her into the kitchen] A sous chef is an assistant or junior chef in the kitchen. And neither am I. [He tries to be warm, inviting.]

[Tifa's happy to be led. She hasn't really met any fatherly sorts since arriving in Siren's Port, and there's a certain comfort Michael exudes that has her relax at the touch, rather than tense.]

I'm happy to be your sous chef then, I love to cook. [She smiles up at him.] You're not from Earth either?

What do you cook, generally?

[Oddly, while Erik greatly doubts his skills, his recent experiences in Genosha have strengthened his tendencies as a father. He's finding it easier to slip into the role of father, grandfather, and uncle - roles fate has deprived him of.]

Not from this one, no. And from a time and place well removed.

Bar and pub food mostly, at least when I'm not home. I like to throw together a stir-fry sometimes...uhm...that's about it really I think. Sometimes I experiment with...varying degrees of success. [She grins widely at the thought of some of her failures in the kitchen. Vincent might never forgive her for the garlic and peaches incident.]

I'm from a planet called Gaia myself. So much of this is brand new, even though we have a lot of similarities.

Ah, yes. Those lessons we learn when we look back and wonder just what we where thinking. [He smiles - he's had a few things turn out...well, badly, if not inedible.]

What is home like?

Mhmhmhmhm. [She grins at the thought, nodding agreement.] If you never try new things you don't learn but wow...sometimes I really wonder why I'd want to try some of those ideas.

Home is...a bar I run on Gaia, where I live with my kids and...Cloud. [Should she even call him her boyfriend anymore? It was so hard to know with all the time and distance between them...] We're recovering from a war that wracked most of the pl...

[She trails off and colours red.] Oh Heavens you meant Gaia. Ah, I'm sorry, sometimes I babble when I meet new people, a little nervousness.

I meant home. Both, home, and your planet. How many children do you have?

Two. [She pauses over a bowl, staring into it and thinking of home. There's a little melancholy, but there's a warm smile stretching over her face.] Marlene and Denzel. They're...amazing, just...everything. Everything I could hope for.

Marlene is six and trying to take care of everyone already, she looks after her brother so well. And Denzel...he's trying so hard to be a grownup already, it almost breaks my heart to see him like that. He chases after Cloud whenever he can, and tries to be the man of the house when he's not arou...ar...[She draws in a shaky breath. Cloud being gone had been hard on everyone, especially with Denzel's geostigma. There's a little water gathering at her eyes but she finishes the thought all the same.] When Cloud's not around.

[He listens, understanding. Anya had been five. His hope. His talisman. When she pauses he places his hand back on her shoulder, squeezing gently.] My little ones are all grown up now, some with children of their own. They're precious when they are small. How old is Denzel?

Denzel's ten, going on twenty it feels like. [She laughs a little, wiping at her eyes and resisting the urge to turn into that hand and lean against an unfamiliar but reassuring presence. This isn't like her, she can't fall apart, not at a happy occasion.] He's very serious all the time, and he hasn't been letting being sick get to him at all. He's going to be somebody's white knight when he's all grown up.

[Dear God that boy sounds frighteningly like him. He presses a small cloth napkin into her hand.] It's all right. I find it very bittersweet, watching them grow up. I doubt there is a parent you could find who wouldn't understand.
