Kia didn't exactly like being out after sirens, but whenever work forced it on him, he moved as carefully as possible, preferring to avoid monsters rather than end up in fights with them. He didn't know when he'd run out of the small supply of ammo he'd arrived with, nor did he know if any of the weapons stores here would be able to sell bullets for a gun about 50 years old to them.

Tonight, like any other one, he quietly made his way back through the narrow alleys, drawing as little attention to himself as possible but with his hand in his pocket and on the gun just in case.

He froze and drew the weapon when he heard someone or something skidding in front of him. "Who's there?!" Kia shouted, only to feel his heart leap into his throat a moment later. Shit, there were a few monsters there, including one that spat fire at Kia once it heard his voice. His hand shook a little as he aimed and fired. This one barely missed the fire-thing, earning him another close call with having it flung in his direction.

Well he definitely hadn't expected to run nearly straight into Kia. At least the gun might have a bit more of a punch against the fire-breather...not only were Ken's blades nigh-useless unless he could get a drop on it from behind, he was pretty willing to bet his own ability wouldn't exactly work well, being of the same general idea.

Not that he really wanted to use it anyway.

But now the damn thing was zeroed in on Kia, and despite being kinda pissed at the guy--why he was out in the first place and all, or at least part of the reason why--Ken wasn't about to let him get hurt.

"Hey, you ugly bastard, come after me so that wanker can shoot you in the back of the bloody head!" His hand found the catch that loosed the blades on his hand, taking careful aim and throwing them out to wrap around the creature and yank it off-balance.

Kia didn't know who the monster's intended victim had been. He hadn't seen him, just heard him run and get his attention in the first place. But whoever it was didn't seem important right now; what mattered was staying far enough away not to get hit with flames.

The distance issue meant he had no choice in attack methods other than his gun. What good was being able to punch and kick something that could set you on fire?!

Once he heard that annoyingly familiar voice, Kia almost laughed. Of all the people to run into at night, it had to be Ken. What was he doing out anyway? Before he could ask, he watched as blades flew at the creature. It made a gross, inhuman noise and Kia's training sunk in at that point. Get in position, aim, double check the aim, shoot and don't stop shooting until the enemy stops moving. Sadly, that took all five of his remaining bullets.

A moment later, he realized that his pant leg was on fire and smacked it with his gloved palm until the flames died. Ouch.

Ken didn't really like guns, having been on the wrong end of the barrel more times than he really cared to recall, but at least they got the job done. He jerked his hand back, loosing his blades from the creature's body and starting to wind them back into place with an ease that spoke of long practice. He needed to get them back into place before any other nasty decided to make their acquaintance.

"Thanks," Ken said tersely. The 'not that I really needed it or anything' was implied.

Kia didn't slide the gun back in his pocket yet. He needed to let the barrel cool down or he'd get burned from having it against his chest. He did, though, watch Ken retrieve the claws warily, not sure what he thought about the weapon or the fact that Ken, too, was well-trained in combat of sorts. Maybe that would be useful since Kia couldn't shoot anything else tonight.

"I wasn't doing it to protect you," he grumbled. Saving Ken had just been a fringe benefit. Yeah, that was it.

Ken rolled his eyes--though in the dark it wasn't obvious. A couple more moments had his claws set back in their housing, and Ken cast an eye around for anything else that might have decided to make its presence known, coming up lacking for the moment.

"You could just say 'you're welcome,' you know. Or nothing."

Maybe the gunshots had scared the other things off. Kia hoped that was the case since all he wanted to do was get somewhere he could look at his singed leg and then go home. It didn't seem too bad, but it still ached a little.

"I could've, but I didn't feel like it. What the hell are you doing out this late?"

"What the hell do you care?" Ken stood with his left hand on his hip, right hanging at his side--hard to plant that hand too when it currently had a set of near-foot-long sharp stabby things on it.

"Call it payback for you stalking my damn apartment. I'm allowed a bit of curiosity to make up for your nosiness." Kia eyed the claws a little more closely now, tested the barrel of his gun with the back of a couple fingers, and slid it back into his inner coat pocket once it proved cool enough to not be a threat.

This...probably wasn't going to go well.

"Oh for...Fine, I'm out venting some frustration in a wholly dangerous and stupid way, because I really hate this bloody place at the moment." And it's been too damn long since he's killed something.

It spoke to Ken's current mentality that he wasn't even trying to hide or wave off the weapon. It was one thing that Kia knew he had some practice in martial arts--his bagh nakhs were a whole other level. Being practiced with live steel and comfortable with its use was another thing entirely.

"Idiot." Kia would agree with both the "dangerous" and the "stupid" parts of that sentence. There were far better things Ken could've done to take out his frustration...at least, in Kia's mind there were. He knew better then to suggest them to Ken right now or else he might end up hit again.

After a moment, Kia stepped in closer and gave the claws a weird look. "And what the hell sort of weapon is that?" This time, he didn't expect an answer.

"Whatever." Ken snorted, flicking his hand to shake some of the monster remnants off the blades.

"What does it look like?" Four viciously curved butcher knives attached to his hand, doesn't exactly take a rocket scientist to figure out what it's supposed to do.

Kia looked again and thought for a moment. Cats weren't really his animal, but that's what it reminded him of. Some sort of deranged cat paw.

"I thought tomcats on the prowl at night were looking to get laid, not looking to kill things."

Ken stared for a moment or two before facepalming. "No." Just no.

"Then I guess you're neutered?" Sorry, Ken, Kia likes bad jokes.

"...either shut up or think with something that isn't your dick." Yeah, Ken's really not in a good mood tonight, sorry Kia.
