Forward-dated to Saturday morning for a working man's schedule; in front of some random building??? implausibility August 20 2010, 14:54:19 UTC
An unfamiliar neighborhood, an unfamiliar block, but a city was a city no matter where it was, and even an city infested by monsters at dusk was no exception, despite its rather unique tourist attraction (if you could call it that). When you walked, the bottom of your shoes hit the pavement with the distinct dead echo of a path that took you nowhere.

Hands slipped in his pockets, eyes focused on something ahead of him no one else could see, it was inevitable that even a man of such slight, albeit lanky build would eventually collide with someone (something that usually happened when you weren't looking where you were going). Luckily for him, for those who hadn't simply gone out of their way to avoid him, not one of his victims had complained so far (though they threw glares over their shoulders, no doubt).

But his luck always had this knack of ending one way or another. Adachi almost stumbled, this time, shouldering into someone as he swerved around the corner. The collision was hard enough for him to nearly stumble, but whatever was pulling him forward must have been awfully strong - he didn't even stop to say sorry or snap out a, 'Watch where you're going,' before turning right back around - a complete brush-off.

For what it was worth, Kei wasn't going out of her way to make a habit out of literally running into people. It wasn't worth too much, apparently, because the days seemed determined to not end without someone stumbling into her in some fashion, be it her own lack of attentiveness or the other's. In that particular case, she hadn't had a chance to even see the impending collision to avoid, only a split second of shape that filled her vision before being shoved backwards on unruly heels. "Ah, i--!"

She was too far from the building to reach over and steady herself, but her bracelet snagged on the young man's clothing at the cuff. With him moving so swiftly and resolutely, she hadn't had much of a say which way she was getting tugged until she could reach over with her other hand and try to stop him by the shoulder. "Hold on! I'm a little, ah--" Stuck, looks like.

...Oh. A tall blonde in heels stuck on an impromptu leash.

What.

These sorts of things (women attaching themselves on to him) just tended not to happen to Adachi, so upon noticing, he took one glance at her, one glance at their outstretched and unfortunately locked wrists, and let out a sharp, piercing bark of laughter before he could help himself. Granted, he did slap his hand over his mouth immediately afterward, and though the look in his eyes was almost apologetic, there was still obviously a hint of a smile still hiding under his fingers.

He raised his arm, consequently raising hers, and quirked a brow at her. "What, ah, happened here, exactly?" He almost blurted entirely tactless out like, Solicitation's illegal, you know, but no. Women tended to be pretty touchy about that sort of thing, didn't they?

It was a rather unusual situation, so Kei could hardly blame him for his strange reaction. Her own expression was a twisted half-smirk, stuck between doubt and amusement as her wrist lifted up along with his. Weirder things had happened, sure, but...

"A...little wardrobe malfunction, I think," Kei replied, gently giving a tug with her hand to see if it wouldn't break free on its own. No longer in danger of toppling over, she turned to better face their little problem, her mouth puckering as she looked to see how it had caught. Being just a plain bangle, she was fairly sure it wouldn't have done too much damage..."Ah. I'm a little stuck right here, hold on."

Kei twisted the bracelet until the end that had slid in under his cuff was free, giving her hand a light shake once that was all done. "There!" She smiled, apologetic but no less amused. "No damage done, I hope?"

Inspecting his wrist and turning it from side to side in front of his face, Adachi raised his eyes to her face and smiled, lowering his hand back to his side with a shake of his head. "Good as new," he responded amiably, looking almost sheepish for having unintentionally dragged an innocent woman down the street. She was taking it rather gracefully, surprisingly enough. He would have thought she'd complain about the indignation of it, about the possible damage that might have been done to her probably-overpriced piece of jewelry, demanded compensation - things like that. "Just a few threads out of place, but it's no big deal.

"Sorry about that," he offered instead, rubbing the imaginary embarrassment off his face with the flat of his palm, shyly averting his eyes. Occasionally, he glanced back at her and then looked away just as quickly, as if afraid of being caught staring, or perhaps for modesty's sake. It was the way one would usually act in the presence of a friendly, beautiful woman. It was the way one was supposed to act, more specifically (accurately). "I didn't break anything of yours, did I? Seemed like I had a pretty good hold on you without even knowing!"

Kei's now-free hand gave another shake, waving off his apology and inquiry with light dismissal. "No worries," she replied, a bit of laughter in her voice. "I'm...not entirely sure how that even happened, but it's not something I could blame you for." The bracelet was a complete non-issue from her standpoint: just another nick-knack that seemed good at the time. The whole idea of owning so much stuff was still not sitting completely well with her, but even that couldn't stop a girl from trying. Getting accidentally attached to a stranger because of it could, though. Maybe no more dangling jewelry...

"Ah, but," Kei's head tilted just slightly, "you were in quite a hurry, seems like? I'm sorry. I haven't thrown you off-schedule or keeping you from something important, am I?" If it were true, he ought to have just said his apologies and fled, she figured, but then the politeness of some people here was rare. "If so, please-- don't let me keep you tangled up any further!"

Heads up; going out of town for the weekend, I'll get back to this on Sunday night! implausibility August 21 2010, 06:27:04 UTC
"A...hurry?" Adachi repeated slowly, which might have given her the impression that he was a little absent-minded, to say the least. He dragged his eyes to the side, looking down the street. Siren's Port, even during the day, was not exactly bustling with activity. (That riot had been extremely out of the norm, in fact.) Like being burned once (and once too many), people didn't live in a monster-infested city without growing some sense of precautions, after all. A few pedestrians were making their way up and down the street, but it certainly wasn't crowded.

Had he been in a hurry? He had been walking fast, no doubt, and he almost seemed to have been walking with a distinct purpose and destination in mind - driven, focused, and maybe a little frazzled, just like how he taught himself to walk, back in Inaba, so that civilians wouldn't ask too many questions, so that Dojima-san wouldn't complain too much, so that he wouldn't linger too long in a city he was about to swallow into an abyss.

But he had never had anywhere to go. Adachi had always been an aimless man.

He smiled at her again, replacing that distant look with something less off-putting, and shook his head with a shrug. To those from Inaba, the odd sense of sobriety might have been strange, might have garnered a bit of suspicion, or it might have fanned at the ember of suspicion that had already been there. (Un)Fortunately, this was a stranger. What did she know? "Heheh, nah, I hadn't really been walking with anywhere in mind. Guess I just got distracted. My partner used to always give me an earful whenever I had my head in the clouds. 'Adachi, you idiot! Just where do you think you're going? How are you supposed to watch over others when you can barely even handle yourself?'"

His shoulders drooped, as if recalling a bad memory. Turning his attention back to her, Adachi offered a small, sheepish wince. "'Sides, I should be the one saying that." He canted his head. "Dressed up to go somewhere?"
