People were not normally out in these numbers, so close to siren. He wondered if word of the unveiling would have traveled so fast, if not for the news feature. Certainly Daedalus wouldn't have heard otherwise- and normally wouldn't have given a new statue more than a passing moment's attention, if not for it's curious relevance to some of his current projects.
Sunlight and sunset, the quality of something within the electromagnetic spectrum to hold back the darkness itself...the subject was intriguing, and he wondered if the artist or their backers had any particular insight into the matter.
So he had called in to work an hour late in advance (the morning rotation had done the same to him a number of times already, and with shorter notice to none, so he didn't feel excessively guilty about it either.), and convinced Re-l that a little visit to a cultural affair with a nice view of the ocean at sundown wouldn't be a terrible experience, or a bad impression to leave with her new superiors at City Hall.
Doctor Yumeno waved off the passing trays of champagne, and avoided involvement in the clusters of people who clearly were there just to see and be seen, although he kept a listening ear out. Jubilee still hadn't gotten back to him about Magneto. The sphere itself was difficult to even catch a glimpse of over the crowd, but there were hushed noises of awe and approval tittering over the open-sky gala, enough to know that the reflective sphere was well-received by the public.
He was really hoping to run into some of the physics professors from Hillsdale, who might be a little better versed on the subject of electromagnetic fields. Good contacts to develop.
And of course, the company he'd brought along couldn't be better.
