[the video feed comes on, seeming to point at nothing for a moment - there's a quiet, nearly inaudible clack as Rin sets her NV down on the desk in Minako's boarding house and steps away from it for a minute, getting something.
And then THUMPthumpthump as she drops a big stack of magazines demonstratively in front of the video feed. Magazines, well, it might be hard to tell what they are; the way they look now, they're just yellow backs and text. National Geographic, actually, and the shot bisected with a piece of twine, what binds the whole thing together.
Rin leaves them and picks up her NV, moving the camera for a shot of the top cover of the stack of magazines, avoiding capturing her own face. She sounds quiet, cautious, curious. The main article is apparently talking about Yellowstone.]
Look at this. [She sits the camera back - yes, that is a whole stack of National Geographic magazines, tied up in a stack, and another stack of them too, which she hasn't broken into yet. And what looks like some other books. After a moment, she carries on.]
The school library is giving away some books... because it's the end of the year. Actually, they're really free. They let me take a lot. I guess they're going to be handing them out for a while, cleaning out their stock... the librarian says they're buying a lot of new books, so they need the room. So they're just giving all this away.
[She reaches into the stack and fishes out one of the magazines.]
So in the meantime, I can help myself to thinking about sun bursts, cocaine, Olympic Park, Barabaig, wild scorpions... Peru temple, and Nalcrest Fl. [A pause.] I don't even know what half of those things are.
[Another moment of silence, contemplating this before she moves along and pulls out... another box. Thumping it on top of the pile of National Geographic magazines. It's a box of powdered chocolate cake mix.]
I am going to be ambitious. I'm gonna make a cake.
Minako, Shizuo, the rest of you... [dem housemates.] I'm gonna make it soon, you can help yourselves if you want. I think chocolate is one of the nicest modern things here, along with hot running water. So I thought it might be fun to share out. Or, Jack, Yuffie, Sasuke... maybe you can have some too, hm?
