What does it mean, truly, "to bake"? Perhaps "bake" is an acronym...Would that not be remarkable? Would it not be fitting? To have the entire world of meaning buried within four letters, that word filled with secrets as the best baked good are filled with hidden joys, like meat.
(I must ask, dear readers - why is there not more meat in baked goods? This question to be explored in a subsequent column.)
B could be for brilliant. A for amazing. K for [Phil - think of a word starting with k here. It's close to deadline and I have about ten of these to write]. E for enigmatic...For, indeed, baked goods are the most enigmatic of foods, are they not? What goes in? What ingredients, and what wizardry?
That is not for us to know, mortals.
But, mortals...One must nevertheless plunge into the unknown to explore the brilliance, the amazement, the [Phil - fill in the k noun here], the enigma that is the Funtom House of Toys and Sweets. BITE into the tarts. AVAST, those muffins...KILLER croissants. EVERYTHING is worth trying there...
Except for the scones. Avoid those. It was like eating a tire filled with cotton. Thank you, no.
