Granted, I'll give you the fact that not all of them are bad, and maybe in some worlds they're as moral or immoral as humans. But in my world and from the ones I've seen here? They're evil.

I'm pretty sure the fact that he locked them in a closet against their will meant they weren't voluntarily feeding him.

Maybe the vampires just didn't realize that there were willing donors out there. So many people are scared of them that they're afraid to reach out!
