Cultists Cut Into Siren's Port Broadcasts
Last night at 5pm, local television and radio programming was brought to an abrupt halt when the Core Cult featured in this weekend's popular Afterglow Comedy Hour interview responded with a live message broadcast across the entire AGI network. Unveiling a conspiracy to sacrifice Newcomers and awaken an ancient spirit sleeping in the Core, their threat also seems to include an attack on life support systems at the city hospitals. Experts are still baffled, as a media hijacking of this scale has never been achieved before, but suspect foul play with advanced technomancy.
Furious, AGI's public relations have apologized for the public disturbance, with an official AGI spokesperson stating "While AGI is in no way affiliated with these Cultists, we will not stand for the hijacking of our resources. We will do our utmost to identify, capture, and exact retribution on these hijackers, with or without the help of civic authorities." The spokesperson also stated that corporate security and the SPPD are working together to hunt down this dangerous cult and prevent this ritual sacrifice as quickly as possible.
Security at the site of the Core itself will be doubled for the next 48 hours, and city hospitals are also on high alert for potential threat of terrorist activity.
"After last week's raid on the Core and the explosion downtown, we aren't taking any more chances with loose watch," promised Sector 4 Police Sergeant Harold Shaw, in a brief press conference this morning. "People shouldn't worry- the core will stay in good safe hands. No one's going to be drenching it in blood, not even the blood of Newcomers."
SERO's only official statement on the matter is a return to their previous bid for the Core, suggesting that if city officials cannot contain public fervor, custody of the device should be turned over to corporate entities who can ensure its security. "Since Afterglow can't seem to keep it's own cable programming together," one executive was overhead saying at City Hall this morning, "your best option should be obvious."
AGI media stations have traced the source of the broadcast to a basement apartment in Sector 4, which was raided by SPPD special unit earlier this morning. It was found emptied, but with enough candlewax and bare chairs to identify it as the video recordings location, and a message across the far wall exhorting the city to "HAVE FAITH", written in blood. Also discovered at the scene were plans to hold the ritual at four separate sites, supposedly aligned with polar energy concentrations of the Core. Police are now searching for these locations.
In addition, AGI has released the back half of the live feed, which was not shown last night when scheduled programming returned on air. In this footage, several missing persons have been identified, but citizens and Newcomers are encouraged to come forward with any information about these kidnapped victims or the cult itself.
AGI has posted $30,000 bounty on the cult's leader, dead or alive, and is putting it's broadcasting tech personnel through intense scrutiny, suspicious that the pirated patch was an inside job.

[The extra clip, released by the news station, opens with the last lines shown from the original broadcast and continues from there:]
With the lifeblood of its chosen spilled out, the marked our Core has spat out from its deep womb fed back into the earth, that slumbering spirit will be released at long last! It will devour the faithless in a tide of scalding fire, raze the proud companies to the ground, and give rebirth to a new era of vitality and longevity!
[The blue-haired figure steps halfway to the side and sweeps an arm out in grand gesture.]
These, these most blessed children, hold within them the ability to restore the light to this place. As this blood flows over stone, so too will immortal blood flow through our veins!
[What the arm is gesturing to is a lineup of people. Missing people, people in chairs, sitting still and with their hands bound. They're a ways away from the camera, completely in the background of the shot. Candlelight flickers, but features can be made out: a few will be recognized as people who'd been apprehended in view of the network- Veser, Akira. There's One man - perhaps identifiable as Liquid Snake - is bound to his chair, and white cloth is wrapped around and around his left shoulder and bicep. Another man might just be Fang Baskerville, with half his face 'bandaged' in that same sort of cloth. Urick's chest has been given similar treatment. Vanille's bright hair is unmistakable, and the cloth has bound one of her legs.
This seems to be the case for most of the seated captives: be it eyes or arms or wrists, strips of white cloth conceal parts of them.
In the center and at the forefront of this line sit four boys. They're young boys - the youngest of the lot - and they're all quite still. That shock of white hair could indicate Allen Walker, whose face is also half-covered in cloth. A blond boy looks as though his upper torso is bandaged, again with that cloth. Oz Vessalius, if you know him. Together, of course, are a dark-haired boy and a fair-haired boy, blindfolded and gagged respectively. Ciel Phantomhive has his head tucked against Alois Trancy's shoulder, whose ankle is hooked around Ciel's in lieu of hand-holding. The blue-haired figure spreads her arms at them in a gesture that really could seem loving.]
These saints and these children shall offer us lifeblood on which we must thrive. Their sleep shall lead to awakening; their tenderness shall bring us strength.
[Again, she turns toward the camera fully, but her arms are still wide.]
Have faith! [she declares.] Have faith! Have faith! Bathe in the beauty of their sleep as we feed flesh unto this faith, this everlasting dependency upon that which grants us respite from the terror of darkness and death!
[Arms raise higher and the chant continues: Have faith! Have faith! This time, the feed ends naturally.]
Other Notes
- There was a close brush with death yesterday evening, when a Newcomer standing outside the Funky Chicken, a small family-owned fast-food restaurant, was nearly flattened by the mascot statue of said establishment. The young woman, by the name of Ella, claims that she'd been waiting for one of the Funky Chicken's customers when the rope lifting the mascot, a two ton statue of a plaster chicken, frayed further and snapped. The driver of the crane was unable to hear the young woman's call of warning. A witness to the incident, namely one of the construction workers, said a rather strange phenomenon occurred prior to the chicken's fall, beginning with his hat falling off and ending with the valve of a nearby fire hydrant twisting open, resulting in a pressurized blast of water hitting the Newcomer and knocking her out of the way seconds before the statue fell, saving her from a painful death.
[ooc: Sorry guys! Uryuu has been removed from the feed, as the player has removed him from the plot! Again, sorry for that confusion.]
