[greetings, Siren's Port. Have a surly albino in a laboratory, fiddling with something at his work desk. He doesn't bother to look up as he speaks.]

...One would think a building meant to house scientific minds would be safe from the nonsense of this holiday, but no. It's inescapable. If I have to listen to one more nasal attempt at humor ( Read more... )

For what you'll do?

[His tone is very amused.]

Merely a turn of phrase, Mr. Sionis.

Could you, though, anyway?

[oh, way to find the defensive switch]

- Meaning what?

Does the change affect your mind as well as your body?

For now. I assure you I plan to change that, among other things.

Hey, I'm just a curious lay person, Doctor. I'm by no means insinuating anything.

[he continues as though he didn't hear him.]

Believe me, once I have full control over calling and controlling my transformation, this entire city will cringe beneath the glory of it! No longer will it be the Darkness these herd animals fear, but the flapping wings that signal Man-Bat!

[Completely unfazed.]

And I wish you the best of luck in your endeavors, Dr. Langstrom. Any success thus far?

[the scowl returns, and he makes a sweeping gesture with one arm at his workspace. A metal holder holds a small, pen-like device, the casing partly removed to expose delicate mechanisms] Only in monopolizing a corner of shared workspace. This blasted thing may be my best chance at once again reclaiming my wings, but it's proven stubbornly resistant to attempts at reverse-engineering. The truth of the matter is its technology isn't my expertise. My genius shines best among beakers and flasks.

[Roman switches to video and peers at the device.]

What is it?

A sonic trigger. Since the Batman's interference with the consumption of my formula, it's been the only thing able to activate the transformation.

I can't pretend I know how any of that works.

What did he do?

In this instance, nor can I. It's another scientist's work.

I had my full transformation mapped and timed perfectly across three doses. With the third, my change would have been permanent. Batman saw fit to disrupt that schedule and destroy the last vial.

Is recreating the formula so difficult that you'd sooner try to crack the mechanics of a sonic device you have no idea about?

No, of course not. The trouble lies in the time release. That time frame has expired. The mutagen doses were meant to act in concert with one another. It isn't as simple as starting from scratch - the traces left within in me have permanently bonded. Starting over again would be an effective overdose, and I have no idea what the reaction would be with my system. I could simply end up splitting apart at the genetic seams.

So yes, I'd rather try my hand at conquering this damned device.
