|Action| ☇ #01: The Arrival

Feb 06, 2011 17:28

[At about 4pm, there will be an alarmed hawk appearing smack-dab in the middle of the baseball diamond. Said hawk has to make a miraculous save in order not to collide with the nearest building, and he doesn't look too happy about it either ( Read more... )

[ He's really just passing by, in the vicinity so that he can get from point A to point B; patrolling, just talking a walk. Both. Simple exercise.

He stops cold when he hears those words ringing in his head. Gaze landing on the hawk, his head tilts a fraction. Neither the words in his head nor an animal speaking is unusual for him, though... it's been a while.

But alright, then. Answering in telepathy:

Hello. ]

[ That startles him a bit. While he's no stranger to thoughtspeak, humans shouldn't be able to do it unless they're in morph.]

< You can--!

Who are you? >

[ This. He'd rather missed this - communication by telepathy back and forth with someone (something). Take a careful step forward to the hawk.

My name is Jomy. And you? Do you have a name? ]

< My name doesn't matter. > [Still not feeling all warm and fuzzy, and not suspicious about this place. He makes no move to fly away though, and even lands on a nearby lightpost]

< How are you talking to me like this? > [Not that he thinks Jomy will tell the truth, but he doesn't know how else to get to the bottom of this whole mess.]

[ Well, at least it's (he's) not leaving. That's promising, at the very least. Staring right on up.

Ah. . . I'm a psychic.

It's about the easiest he can explain it, really. And, okay, if getting a name was no-go, then:

Can only birds speak like this in your world? ]

< You're psychic. Like Ms. Cleo or-- > [Stopping talking now. None of this made any sense. He'll be staring right through you, from the lightpost. He had to try something]

< No.

What do you think of Andalites? > [To be honest, he's at the point where he's getting desperate. Desperate for anything that reminds him of home, or this universe, even if it's a Yeerk. It's not the best trick in a book, but ask any Yeerk what they think of Andalites and they will make a tell-tale sign. He'll be watching Jomy's reaction very closely.]

[ His reaction is very simple: confusion. A crinkling of the skin between his eyebrows, head at a slight tilt, lips twisting down. He understood absolutely nothing in terms of content in that reply. (Ms. Cleo? Andalites?)

I'm sorry, I've never heard of that term before.

A beat. Then, finally speaking out-loud, cautious (please don't fly off): ]

You're new here? Has no one explained this city to you?

[Well, at least Tobias is fairly confident he's not a Yeerk now. No Yeerk could ignore the word Andalite.]
< Yes, I'm new.

This is Siren's Port, Canada, or so I've been told. And it's impossible to escape from here. > [That he wasn't told, but figured out shortly. He kind of flew off after meeting his greeter.

He doesn't react to the switch to talking aloud either, though Jomy still hears him in his head. He's just a little bit more relaxed, now that he's mostly reassured that Jomy isn't an enemy.]

[ As an empath, that relaxation (however minute) is very much appreciated. The voice in his head is just fine with him too; he's at ease with it. Used to it.

He takes a step back so that he can look up at the bird without having to crane his head upwards as much. A name to refer it by would be nice too, but one step at a time. ]

Yes, that's true. [ All of it, he adds as an afterthought. ] What about the Darkness?

< The darkness?

I'm diurnal. > [Though that probably wasn't what Jomy was talking about.]

[ ... Nope, not at all.

But - okay. ]

At night, monsters emerge out in the streets. The people here call this phenomena simply as the Darkness. A siren rings every evening to signal its onset, and another siren to signal that it's over. These monsters can be fought off and killed, but they reappear the next night, so it's often best to simply avoid being caught outside during this time.

Where do people go for refuge? >

Most living spaces are fortified, so people don't gather anywhere in specific.

[ ... ] As a new arrival, you should be given a room at the Tower Apartments for a month for free. You'll be safe there.
