[Liquid's been busy today.

Besides being near-fatally injured by Yazoo - thank god for Kadaj and healing, even if he did make him suffer in the process - he's also been preparing for something. Call it a peace offering. His words are laced with his old, familiar intensity and the spark of life that seemed to have diminished somewhat lately. The ( Read more... )

...

[Well, he was heading in to comment on Liquid joining the police force, but now he's just...leaning warily on the doorframe and looking at that dog like it's going to burst into flames. Yes, Liquid, you actually do something nice for your brother and he reacts by being extremely suspicious. Can't really blame him, can you?]

Oh, you're here anyway.

[He looks surprised and shakes his head.]

Trust you to walk in just then.

[Ah, well. It did spoil the surprise somewhat, but he hardly minded.]

I thought you'd be missing your dogs, so I bought you something to keep you company.

[After all, he'd realised slowly that Snake had to be lonelier than he was. He had the cats and John and Kadaj and Yazoo. Snake had... nothing.]

[A sense of appropriate dramatic timing does seem to run in the family. Along with a fondness for animals and cardboard boxes.]

[Snake does have a little genius girl and a pretty bounty hunter to talk to on occasion. But aside from Sunny and Samus, his list of allies has gotten pretty thin as of late. He'd be surprised to hear that Liquid even bothered to notice.]

[Still, he doesn't enter the room, hovering distrustfully by the door and looking sidelong at his brother. What are you up to, Liquid seriously.]

...I don't remember telling you I raised dogs.

...you wouldn't. You mentioned them once or twice, back at Shadow Moses. I did some research on you even before that. [A derisive snort.] And you look at me like I'm crazy. I don't keep 50 of the wretched things.

[Liquid's companions more than equalled those numbers. Even if he would only call a handful of them friends, he had a far more relaxed attitude when it came to people. It was easier for him to talk, to draw people, to enjoy company. Even his paranoia didn't intervene in that, as long as nobody got too close. But he had noticed.]

At any rate, I figured I owed you that much.

For how long were you going beforehand?

Approximately seven days, if my memory serves.

I believe that the continuous time is what's most important.

So in that case, I should resume for the next three weeks, and consider it even?

You'd be with me, then?

Most likely. It depends on where I'm assigned to, I'd assume.

Still, you'll be an officer. A soldier of this modern age for me.

I'm so happy to know that we'll be closer together.

That's assuming I pass whatever security checks they require. Although frankly if Kadaj can be accepted into it, I doubt I'll have trouble.

You don't think FOXHOUND would have issues with you working for someone else?

[And he's totally not interested in how adorable that dog is. Nope. Total hardass here.]

My unit isn't here to take issue. There's nothing that says you can't work other jobs while you're out of commission.

[Sure he's not. Just look at the way the dog pants and rolls over boredly.]

There isn't anything in your contract about that? Even if they're not here, there're always ways they could find out. Might jeopardize your career...

[His voice drifts a bit as his focus wanders, coincidentally at the same time the dog rolls over.]

Trust me. They aren't going to let go of me.

[And he'd done far more jeopardising things. Like international terrorism, for one. He was not worried about his job. That was pretty much over the moment he set foot on Shadow Moses Island. He looks a little confused.]

Something on your mind?

If they allow it. Is that surprising?

Maybe a little. You'll probably find it boring. [Because he sure did.]

Do you think FOXHOUND was all action? [He sounds amused.] I'm used to bureaucracy at least.
