ONE mystery solved. [before siren.]

[Because I had to throw someone at him.]

Don't know about getting an exact count, but there's quite a few of us. And I'm afraid the lousy weather isn't that uncommon.

"Quite a few" - dozens? [a beat, and--] The rain? Or the freezin' part?

More than dozens, I'm afraid.

Well, the cold might have something to do with the fact that it's winter.

Sounds like it's going to get crowded.

Does it?

The old man said he was going to check if there was a room available, and I figured I'd-- wait here.

Well, for one thing, if you got out of the rain and cold, you'd probably be more comfortable. Could head into the dugout, at least.

And if you're not inside by the time the sirens go off, you'll likely want to then. Unless you feel like adding monster-fighting to the cold and the rain.

[yeeeah, the dugout... letting that pass for -]

They're real, huh? What sort of monsters are these exactly?

Very real. And they're out all night, every night. There's all manner of them, really. Humanoid, animal-looking, or different altogether. Varying speed, strength, and abilities. Some travel in packs while others are solitary . . . There's really too many kinds for me to give a comprehensive rundown.

And all of these things swarm the place? You've gotta be kidding me! That sounds like a nightmare!

You'd get a whole lot of people agreeing on the "nightmare" interpretation. They can be killed, of course -- but they'll come back the next night anyway.

[insanity! this was all insanity, and he-- he... didn't know at all what to do with it. a round of silence, then-]

How big would you rate this city?

It's fairly big, though I've been in bigger. Not ones this modernized, though. It pretty much takes up the whole island.

... What exactly makes this place an "island?" [has never heard of oceans before, you see.]

... You don't know what an island is? It's a land mass that's surrounded on all sides by a body of water.
