It's similar enough. People are people no matter where you put them -- I just suppose here it's even easier for them to want to and try to kill each other.

But the culture, the food, and other things like that are similar?

I think some of the problem may be that people are unable to escape from here and go elsewhere...and there seems to be a disproportionate amount of people with some sort of special ability here.

Yes; and as you can imagine, the abilities make the capture and conviction of criminals a trying task indeed.

As for the culture and food -- they're similar enough. I've spent enough time in the United States back home, albeit a decade into the future.

Are you involved in law enforcement, then?

It must be strange being pulled back in time.

It's nothing so extreme as some of the other people who have been brought here. At least it's a time period I remember living through myself.

I'm a prosecuting attorney.

It was a very drastic change for me. This world is nothing like my own...but the Discovery Channel is interesting.

What is a prosecuting attorney? The legal system here is very different than anything I'm used to.

The role of a prosecuting attorney is to find the defendant guilty. Why, what was it like in your own world?

Defendant? Is that the term for a person accused of a crime?

[She really only has television to go by. It has helped her understanding of human culture a bit.]

There was a much greater emphasis on the survival of the fittest, with a military structure that was introduced later to establish some semblance of order.

That does little good when it comes to protecting a society's most vulnerable.

And yes, that's correct.

That's quite true. Those who are vulnerable in my world either learn how to avoid threats, affiliate themselves with someone strong, or they die. The military structure that was introduced helped with the affiliation option.

Such a system is very susceptible to corruption.

Actually, it was very honest in its own way. There were no politicians rising to power because of promises they had no ability to keep. The land was a desert where it was always night, so there weren't many resources around to worry about being stolen.

It had its flaws, but I believe it worked well for people who previously were living in chaos.

Politicians who can't keep their promises shouldn't be elected to office.

But they seem to be fairly common, if the news is any indication.

What's your name, if I may ask? My name is Nelliel Tu Odelschwanck.

Franziska von Karma, the Prodigy.

And yes, it is common. Unfortunately so.

[Nelliel nods politely at the introduction, then turns to the other question she asked.]

Is there any experience you would recommend to someone whose world is very different from yours? A type of food, or an activity? I've been learning about human culture here by experiencing it.
