[The NV clicks on to an empty room of a small house. It's old, but mostly solid. You can see the window shutters hang a little loosely, but no so badly they can't be repaired. As the camera pans, you can see scuffed wooden floors as Susan's voice begins to speak.]
Landlord called this a steal, two small bedrooms, a kitchen with appliances older than me. "A perfect home for a Newcomer trying to make her mark." Rent's twenty percent higher than the rent next door and they have an extra bedroom and a garage.
[Entering the kitchen, you can see the appliances in all their avocado green glory, fridge, stove, sinks with leaky faucets. The back door isn't a door, it's solid wood boards that look sturdier than the wall they're hanging on.]
The neighborhood is pretty empty and those that live here look a little desperate. Not at the end of any ropes, but they can see the drop from here and they don't like it. They're scared. They're scared of the things in the dark. The authorities that leave them with more questions than answers. The Newcomers with powers they don't understand and have no idea if they'll be turned on their families. But their kids still play in the streets after school, they still put food on the table and celebrate birthdays. They didn't ask for this.
[Susan finally turns the camera back on herself.]
Neither did we. But we're all here. Together. Gotta make it work somehow. Welcome home, everyone.
