[The image on the video feed is a little shaky.  It depicts a woman in her mid-twenties sitting awkwardly--like she doesn't quite know how to arrange her limbs--on a chair in one of the dug-outs with a coarse brown blanket over her shoulders.  Her long, brown hair is loose on her shoulders; an untied ribbon hangs limply in the thick ponytail. Canada is the northern part of Northern America, on Earth.

[half to herself; she glances away from Sunny as she thinks, wringing part of the blanket in her free hand.] Earth? So--not quite Gaia then, it seems.

Thank you, Sunny--could I trouble you a little more?

I know 'Gaia' is another w-word for earth, from the a-ancient Greek, Gaea.

You're welcome. [She smiles.] Of course, I'm a-always glad to help.

[Lucrecia smiles wearily back, and seems at least a little cheered by Sunny's friendliness.] Greek? Hm, I guess I have even more to learn than I originally thought.

I don't suppose you know how or why this happened, do you? I mean--did it happen to you, as well?

[Sunny is always friendly!] Well, m-most of us c-come from different worlds, so it's okay.

It d-did. I'm actually from a d-different Earth and about three y-years further in time than here in Siren's P-Port. We were a-all brought here by the C-Core, apparently it's m-malfunctioning so it s-seems to be randomly bringing people here. I'm n-not sure it's entirely random anymore though.

[she takes a minute to consider this, and she seems to rein in her fear a little more.] You're saying this--Core--it has some kind of overall design?

Y-yes, I believe so. But w-without more d-data I can o-only go by what I've h-heard so far.

[She notices that. Kids notice a lot of things quicker than adults.] It's n-not all bad here. This is my s-second time being Pulled into S-Siren's Port.

[she draws the blanket more tightly around her shoulders and nods.] Yes--you can't come to a solid conclusion without solid reasoning. I suppose we'll all just have to work on it.

[she glances from the screen to the window, out at the creepy darkness.] Not bad? But something here feels so wrong. The man who brought me here told me not to move until daylight ...

[A firm nod from the child.] Right, b-but for now I'm making a list of people who r-relate to others in the Port. Later w-when I have a computer, I c-can get more information.

[She doesn't blame her for feeling uneasy.] There are s-siren's that let you know w-when it's safe and w-when it's not. And there are p-plenty of places that are darkness-proofed so that you'll be safe until morning siren's.

[She thinks back.] Besides, n-nobody stays dead forever h-here. My uncle d-died once but h-he came back about a w-week later.

Ah--you mean from the same world. I was told there are others from my planet here, also, so you have a list you can put me on already!

[ulp.] --Can I ask, why is it unsafe?

Oh ... but, even if he came back, that must have been hard on you.

Exactly. I w-will, and then I can f-find out who else f-from your world is here. There's s-still a lot of people to list.

The darkness, there are all sorts of monsters that come out after evening s-sirens.

It... w-was, yes. He must h-have activated his NV b-by mistake when he w-was out. And h-he got attacked...

That sounds like a useful project. It might help detect a pattern or a purpose ... [she's muttering to herself now, thinking.] If I'm able to help, I will.

[--but then Sunny mentions the monsters, and her eyes widen. Not that the Planet was free of such things, but ...] Monsters, in a city? Goodness.

I, I'm sorry. That's horrible.

I'd c-certainly be thankful for any h-help. It's k-kind of hard to get the money necessary for this kind of p-project and talk to e-everyone while in school.

It's only at n-night though, so that's good. And at least the siren's go off, so the locals aren't c-completely heartless when it comes to us Newcomers.

I've seen worse, it's o-okay.

[Sounding a little embarrassed.] Right, money. I hadn't thought about that. Ugh.

Locals, huh? Are there many natives?

[she frowns a little as Sunny's voice lowers. Poor kiddo.] Hey ... does your uncle take care of you now?

It's o-okay. You g-get a free month in the Tower Apartments, if the Greeter d-didn't mention it.

A l-lot yeah. Some aren't s-so happy about Newcomers.

No, he got sent h-home. But Snake is still here, and Minako is l-letting me live with her.

I'll have to do my best to fit in, then. What happens after that month? On your own? [she's trying to sound optimistic, but her voice is a little tremulous.]

Oh, good. You have people to look after you, then.
