[Riku's not at work tonight, thankfully, and he's content to stay indoors for the first time in several nights. He's been thoughtful all day and filled with a strange kind of optimism. Ansem the Wise's words are in his ear: "Everything will be as it should be." He has time to hope now.

That is, until he sees an all too familiar face on the network. The Keybearer is silent for several moments, fumbling with his NV. No... No, this can't be him.]

...What is this, some sort of joke?

[It really is him, isn't it? Only one way to find out. He calls out to his darkness.]

Ansem.

Voice;

[Oh. Now that is a familiar voice. There's another chuckle as he weighs his options. Perhaps his weakness shows through in his voice, perhaps not. However, he's not going to be rude.]

Riku. I had not expected to hear from you.

Voice;

[walkthedawn]

[...This can't be an illusion. Riku's not that lucky. He actually makes the effort to get outside to sense if this is real. If it's an illusion, then it won't smell the same.]

True, it was not built to endure. It's creation as we understand it today was accidental, but it does not differ from any other city of men. It will fall, given time, reverting to nothing but a shallow rendition of Hell.

No world is meant to last. In the end, all return to the darkness whence they came. And the heart is no different. It is consumed by the darker emotions until not a single glimmer of light remains to it. And then, those hearts, too, return to the darkness.
