Then why not tell the story as it is? That you fought to make your wish come true. What good does it do to hide the truth behind a false hope.

Because it starts with a wish and with hope. And then, because you want that wish to come true so badly, you'll do whatever's possible to make it happen. And that's how wishes come true.
