009: [video]

Dec 31, 2010 15:20

[Amongst all of the somber voices on the network today, Sarina is a bit of a contrast, as her usual confused expression flashes on the video feed. Oh, she was most definitely going to be having some WORDS with Mr. Hypocrite if he came back, but by now she was almost used to people disappearing that she spoke with to be too terribly bothered by the ( Read more... )

[The voice that answers might be a little bit familiar. He'd have been one to ask questions about the nanomachines, too. But not because he's unfamiliar with them.]

...Combatant Kitten?

[...Yyyes that is the part of all that that catches his attention.]

[Oh you better believe his voice sounded familiar. But because she was used to the more weary inflection of Old Snake's voice, she didn't immediately make the connection. It was probably better for the both of them that way.]

[Said with a cautious tone:] Yeah, eehee.

[This was bothering her. Why was his voice setting off some kind of nostalgia within?]

Did you see the ad for the kittens in the news feed the other day? It has a tendency to sometimes attack and it's a kitten, so...

[Probably much better for both of them if she doesn't make the connection. But it would be a wonder if if kept up that way. Easier for Snake, in any case, since he legitimately has no idea who she is (or why she might want to hug him to death.)]

Kittens, huh? Hn...

[There's a bit of a pause and a frown in his voice. Definitely not one that's heard over the network very often. He's better than he used to be, but Snake's still not all that interested in other people's lives. It's none of his business, really. But there was something about the name that caught his attention.]

Sorry. Reminded me of something.

Uh-huh.

[She still proceeded cautiously. If she was feeling some sort of nostalgia, it most likely was not a good thing.]

...eheh. What did it remind you of, if you don't mind me asking?

[He makes a vague noise and takes a while to answer.]

Something from home. My old unit.

[Not really looking to elaborate. Sarina's sick of answering questions about her nanos, Snake's gotten a lot of questions about his codename.]

Unit?

[Yeah, that wasn't a good sign. This probably meant he was from her world, and if she wasn't sure who it was, she most likely didn't want to know.]

Ah. Eheh...heheheh...um -- I uh...hope it was someone okay?

[Evasive mode is GO.]

[Again, he answers slowly, made wary by her response. Her evasiveness, coupled with the compulsive laughter, just makes her sound nervous.]

...No one in particular.

[Just the sound of it. It's a pretty distinctive pattern, after all.]

[Feeling more and more paranoid by the feeling that she should know who this is (but really didn't), it only caused her response to be more delayed. It was a damned good thing it was on voice, because the nervousness would be read all over her face.]

I...I see. I think. Heheh.

[A subtle gulp. Subject change time? Yes, she certainly thought it was.]

So ah are you a cat person, then?

[Good thing Snake has never been the best judge of subtle human emotions, or he'd be pretty damn suspicious by now. But he is finding her behavior a little strange. Something he said?]

...Not really. [As he remembers getting swarmed by Ocelot's cats a couple months back. Didn't mind them, usually, but if he had a choice...]

More of a dog person. Raised 'em for a couple years, back home.

[One of the few personal things he actually doesn't mind talking about. Wasn't the best time in his life, what with the PTSD and the depression and all that, but it was one of the few things he'd enjoyed and accomplished off the battlefield.]

[She was still feeling incredibly nervous over this whole exchange, but she at least felt just the slightest bit less apprehensive. This was at least a not-as-awkward subject.]

Oh yeah? Heheh?

[Still recovering from the uneasiness of the conversation, her mind blanked out momentarily, as she tried to think of something else to say.]

It's ah too bad they didn't have attack puppies then, huh?

Heh. [He sounds a little amused by her suggestion, at least. Shame is isn't on video, it's not such a common thing to see Snake smile. More of a smirk, really, but it's fond enough. He does miss his dogs sometimes. Hell of a lot easier to deal with than people. And with everyone disappearing and nothing meaningful to do with himself, he's pretty much a pack of huskies (and maybe a bottle of whiskey) away from being right back where he was before he joined Philanthropy.]

I'm more experienced in teaching them to pull sleds. Never needed anyone to fight my battles for me anyway.

[Working with Otacon lends itself to hearing a lot of awkward conversations, and her hesitation brings that to mind. If she is nervous, hell if he can tell why. Not gonna press, though, unless she gives him a good reason to.]

[With everyone disappearing from the Outer Heaven household, Sarina herself was having trouble in trying to figure out what to do with her time -- it was a good thing she had two jobs now to keep her mind occupied.]

Well no, I wouldn't want Combatant Kitten to fight anyways heehee, it already went through enough things, from the sounds of it. But it's odd that you never really see any ads for dogs here.

Earned an early retirement, huh? ...probably for the best.

[Snake's all about rooting the the underdog, normally. But he'll draw the line at killer kittens. Poisonous hamsters, on the other hand, could still be a threat.]

[He hums distractedly as he considers the last of it. Come to think of it, it would probably make sense for there to be fewer strays in general around here. Now there's a cheerful thought.]

Hadn't really noticed. Don't worry about it. I'm not in the market.

[Still stubbornly resisting the idea of settling down here for the long run, even if they're hardly any closer to a ticket home.]

They were failed experiments, according to the feed. Heehee...so they didn't want them anymore. Who knows what they would have done to them, if someone didn't take them all.

Well, I guess dogs do require more attention than dogs do. It's just nice having something to keep you from being lonely.

Experiments?

[His attention sharpens on that point. After hearing about what had happened to Fox (tortured, experimented on, driven mad), not to mention his own creation and what had been done to the genome soldiers, he's understandably distrustful of that sort of thing.]

Yeah, they were trying to make them into attack kittens, or something of the sort. Heehee -- but they ran out of funding for the project.
