[text, cause you CAN tl;dr this much in voice, BUT THEN SOMEONE MIGHT MISS SOMETHING]

We are disparate. That much is clear. For all that we've been brought from our various homes to the same place, forced into the same situation, we're not united in any sense of the word. Yet I do not believe that we can survive if we do not support one another. To this end, I propose two things ( Read more... )

This is an excellent proposal, and I will support you wholeheartedly in both. Currently, I am without employment - a situation I hope to remedy as soon as possible - but I can volunteer for the night watch immediately.

I'm a skilled fighter where I am from, and have the power of teleportation. I don't advertise my ability publicly, as I'm sure you can understand. I would be willing to assist not only those caught outside nearby, but those who find themselves needing to travel after dark for some important reason.

Ah...Power of - teleportation. Ah...Yes. You're then able to, er, help others with travel as well?

Ja, I am. If my passengers do not mind a bit of queasiness for a few minutes. Those unused to being teleported generally suffer from Displacement Sickness at first. But it passes quickly enough.

Well, ah...That would be - exceedingly useful. Perhaps more so than any other ability, as the important factor is to ensure that these people are able to escape, not that the creatures end up dead or any such thing. What are the limitations on this - er - power of yours?

Four miles to a 'port is my comfortable average. It takes me about a second to travel sixteen miles or so, but with passengers I would travel a bit slower than that.

I see. Er...That should...cover the distance quite well, then.

Perhaps we should call a face-to-face meeting of those involved in the night watch? Pool our abilities and experience?

I think that would be best. We'll have to coordinate carefully. You, after all, cannot take every shift; we'll have to find someone with efficacy equal to yours for those nights when you must rest.

Just tell me when and where. I'm Kurt Wagner, by the way.

Ah, Edgeworth. [A slight pause] Are you acquainted with the young woman Nats?

Herr Edgeworth.

[a bit puzzled sounding] Nats?

Oh! Ah, ja...Nats. She's a ... a friend of mine from home.

[Slight pause, then, in fluent German:]

Would you prefer to speak in German?

[in accented German (Bavarian/Romany)]

It's good to hear my mother tongue, I must admit. I'm just as comfortable in English these days, but thank you ...and you have a most elegant accent.

[In German]

I grew up speaking the language. It would be good to practice once more, lest I forget it.

What days would be best for you to meet?

Anytime, my friend, I'm currently a lay-about living on Ju-ah...Nat's couch.

Well. I suppose sometime in the evening, naturally, would be best, as all who attend would have to be free at that time regardless.
