[Ritsuka is filming a cork bulletin board on a wall. It's a new cork board, on a new wall in a new apartment - but most people wouldn't know that

There's no point in letting stuff like that get in the way of regular life. [Like, duh, you're a grown-up and you don't get this? Take notes.]
Wishing or waiting isn't going to make someone come back. If you have to move on sooner or later, I choose sooner. There's still a lot I need to get done.
[Pardon the catboy's rudeness. Ongoing events have left him a tad on the saucy side.]
Then why are you talking to me like I'm a little kid? I know what those things are capable of. But if you do nothing but shy away from something, isn't it just gonna be all the scarier if it does end up coming after you in the end?
It doesn't make sense to pretend they're not out there at all.
I'm not talking down to you, believe me. I've walked through the Darkness many a time and know what compromises it, I can safely say there's little to be studied beyond introspection and guesswork.
[ Ritsuka must really think he's stupid. The boy's quite obtuse, never seeming to delve into meanings or look beyond whatever is put into words; more than that, he evidently thinks Sousuke, as an adult, is out to embarrass him. Classic teenager. ]
Why should I try to spook you, Aoyagi-kun? You should be careful, filming the Darkness from a window where you can see it doesn't automatically mean it can't see you.
I'm treating you as I would any mature adult by pointing out salient reminders to do with your hobby. You're quite defensive; do you think I've made up my mind about you already? Perhaps you'll say you don't care if I have or not, but the fact remains you find it impossible to accept constructive criticism.
You've been expecting a small analysis so far, haven't you? There you are. What a shame, and here I only struck up a harmless conversation, curious about what other methods you'd thought to employ because it seemed like an interesting hobby.
[Pause. Ritsuka doesn't move the camera. There's a stir in his reflection, a narrowing of eyes, a twitching of over-alert ears. He's hardly relaxed since he arrived here months ago, and he does wonder sometimes if he's like a feral cat, flying into defensive rages at anything that gets too close. Biting and scratching because he doesn't dare purr.
Why wouldn't he? So many that bother breaking through that shell of defensiveness are taken away. Trust never came easily for the young man, and now it seems almost impossible to grant.
Adults are liars by their nature. Even the ones that pretend to care...]
The window and Darkness proofing are new. I'm taking precautions, it's not like I just wandered out there by myself. I don't want to just shut the curtains every night and pretend it's not going on, like this place is normal. It's not really a hobby so much as looking for something new to take a picture of. I'm sick of--

[He shifts the camera, then backs up, adjusting the lamp so there's less glare.]
I got to thinking... it's all around us and people either fight or ignore it. I'm kind of curious about it. About the idea of it.

I never shy away from anything, young man.

[quiet huff] So you're saying you don't think I should observe them and I should give up?

If you're trying to spook me into behaving or something, it's not going to work. You think I shouldn't attract attention, why is that?
