[A smiling young girl with curled hair pops up. Ooo Job questions, and isn't he simply curious!] I would say that your options aren't as few as you might think if your best skills are in combat! This City takes a lot of interest in strong people like that. Finding it unaffiliated might be the harder part...

I had feared as much. And truly, undue interest is something I would wish to avoid.

I'm sure there are a few things that are neutral that could use someone of such a specialty. Security, yes. The Police forces maybe? Some of the clubs around aren't affiliated, and the Underground Mall is pretty open about these things. [A pause, head tilted. She's been busy lately so she missed a few new people] You haven't been here long, right?

[ he pauses, having to actually recall the days. ]

Less than two weeks.

[ the knight tilts his head right back. ] I apologize for requiring the clarification, but I am not familiar with one of the terms you used: what are these police forces you speak of?

[...What the heck is he?]

You should contemplate being part of security for a business or a club.

Would doing so require me swear fealty to any organization? For it seems there are precious few that remain unaligned, in this city.

There are still plenty of places that are neutral. Lion's Gate, for example, is a very high class club that is entirely neutral for business purposes.

I had noticed it, but it seemed a little... [ he pauses, and well.

indicates himself, smiling wryly. ] I felt I might be out of place. Still, it would not be amiss to inquire.

There are buildings that probably hire guards at night just to make sure nothing breaks through the darkness proofing- I really don't know where they hire for that, though. Or if they take newcomers. But guard jobs are usually easier to get in dark hours, I think, because it's less about the people you're trying to keep out, and more about handling the monsters.

Truthfully, I believe I may find the business of dispatching monsters easier.

They only get 'dispatched' for the night, you know... But clubs and stuff, they could always use help with that. Or...people who need to get home after siren, and can't get around themselves.

You could wait at the night train stations, and walk people home for munny. It's risky, but you wouldn't even need a boss or anything. I've...done it a few times, but most people say I look too young to take me seriously.

[ he tilts his head. ] Appearances can often be deceiving. You must be a great fighter, Sir Joe, to be able to protect others this way.

The most effective way to determine the position that one is best suited for is to make a list of skills, attributes, and traits that one possesses, and work from there. Even within a "proficiency in combat", one will find strengths and weaknesses that will point to one profession over another.

That being said, you've likely already received suggestions as to your future employment. Have any appealed to you, in particular?

I shall keep that in mind, should I need to ask again. Thank you, my lady.

At the moment it seems as though I may find myself working for the law.

Yes. You're welcome.

The law. Well, there are certainly worse occupations, and I suppose, given your abilities, it does make sense. As some sort of patrolman, I assume?

It would appear so, yes.

[Sorry, Fratley, but Mordecai is going to stare at you for a few long seconds before giving a little clearing shake of his head and a throat-clearing cough.]

I do believe that I have heard of special services you can offer to others - an escort for those who need to travel after the sirens sound at night.

[ he gets that a lot. Mordecai's appearance doesn't give him a problem, in turn, since he's surely seen stranger. ]

Yes, Sir Joe had mentioned it earlier. Do you engage in such work yourself?

It doesn't exactly fit into my repertoire. My previous work had been slightly similar until I moved to different tiers in my job.

Have you made a decision, then?

You worked as a guard?

The decision is not mine to make, but I have offered myself for consideration. I shall see what comes of it.
