[A few beats of near silence--muffled traffic noises, mostly. It might seem like this was an accidental recording, that the NV just turned on in a pocket--but eventually, after some deliberation as to whether or not this is even worth asking--]They haul people off all the time. I know that--that's not what I'm interested in. What I'm interested in ( Read more... )

...Is something the matter?

[After a beat.] Foolish question. But why the need for resolution?

That's a foolish question as well, you know. There's got to be resolution. They're called answers, and they're useful when you want to know the fate of someone or something.

Does it matter?

Don't be fucking stupid, of course it matters--it matters. You've got to know what happened.

Oh, so you're planning on doing something, then? Chasing down the corporation responsible for your ... friend's disappearance, I take it? To avoid it happening to others? Is that it?

No, I'm doing something because if one of them did something to him, then they'll deserve the same being done to them. And if he's still there, if they have him-- I'll do whatever needs to be done.

For all the wrong reasons, then. There's this saying, you know: 'an eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind'. [She sighs; if this was back home, she could say 'just leave it to the courts to handle', but that would be mere foolery here.] You don't mind risking your life for this friend of yours, then?

I'll do whatever I have to. If it involves risk--any of it--then yeah. It doesn't matter. I'll do your eye for an eye thing for however long it takes. As long as I work out what happened--that's all that matters.

And if you die, will anyone come after you?

I don't plan on dying. Why, are you worried?

Not particularly.

[Slightly.]

[ha ha. a laugh.] Make that not at all, would you, it's much less disconcerting. And as I said, I'm not planning on doing so.

What's disconcerting is seeing people uselessly waste their lives. Nevertheless, death isn't something that can be planned for. Was this friend of yours planning to be murdered or captured or whatever it is that's happened?

It isn't a waste if it gets bloody information. And no, of course he wasn't, you can't plan to be-- for any of that, but if I know what's coming, then I can plan to avoid it, can't I. He wasn't expecting any of this. I am expecting something to happen, so there's the difference.

You can't expect the unexpected, Sirius Black, just by the very definition of the term. [Another sigh.] Well, then, I can simply hope you do manage to retrieve some information to remember you by.
