You speak on a subject you do not have any understanding of. For some the act of serving is considered to be bound to their honor. If you aren't careful, you could end up insulting someone.

And I know for a fact that if someone saves another's life, whether it be out of kindness or out of usefulness, that something like servitude is just degrading.

To repay what he's done for you is honorable, you're right, and fully respectable. I don't disagree with you.
