1st Letter; voice --> video

[Over the network comes calm and steady voice, cultured in its pronunciations, though young and hampered with urgency:]

Computer, try once more. Connect me to Vicomte Albert de Morcerf.

[pause]

Connect me to Eugenie de Danglars.

[Another pause. And the young man sounds quite miserable.] ...Still nothing, all day. Well, I suppose I've no choice in it, then.

[switch to video]

[A blond young man stands on steps of the city library - it's clearly closed. He peers into the NV unselfconsciously, though he cannot really hide the fact he's pale with worry. He's overdressed for the occasion, his shirt and trousers quite finely made.]

I was told I could use this device to contact a larger network of users. I'm Baron Franz d'Epinay, of Paris, and it's my regret to introduce myself under such unfortunate circumstances. Aside from the obvious shock of arriving here - even with the lovely lodgings ever-so-kindly provided. [Sarcastic? No, of course not!] - I've been rather put out by this place, since the shops won't take my card and I'm unable to access my bank account.

[smiling jokingly] It seems a shame not to abduct us without at least a suitcase, if we're expected for a long stay. That is, if this really isn't the hereafter! [laugh]

That being said, I'm in need of information. First and foremost, what planet is this, and is it really so impossible to leave? The fellow at the sports' field said I am on Earth, and that I cannot leave. But this looks like no Earth I know - not at all. And while I see no sign of space ships or airships, there is a harbor. Islands are rarely self-sufficient. Surely people must leave.

[pause]

I'd also like to consult an accredited physician, though I realize that may need to wait until I've sorted out a way to pay.
