Keigo, don't use the garbage disposal. It's broken. I've just put in a work order with the building, but it will need to be left alone until they send someone out ( Read more... )

I'm gonna try to explain this in the best way possible...

Back home in Spira, there was a lotta death for a really long time. So there's Summoners that help send the spirits of the dead to the Farplane so they can travel to the next world. My cousin Yunie's one of them! The people who aren't Sent and who can't accept dying turn into Fiends. Monsters. They roam Spira and attack the living. Some of them have a lotta power and are really dangerous.

Spirits go to the Farplane, and so can people. I've never been, though. People say that they can communicate with dead souls in the Farplane, but it's probably just an illusion. Like Pyreflies reacting to the memories of the people there, or something. I don't follow Yevon, so I can't say for sure what's going on in there. Not a lotta my people dwell on that kinda stuff.

Heh, I'm talking too much, aren't I?

Are fiends always visible to the living? Are summoners trained or born to have their ability?

Yevon? - And not at all. This the sort of description I was looking for.

Always, and they're real trouble, too. I fight lots of them every day back home. As for Summoners, they might be born special, because Yunie's really special, but you train to be one. I'm not sure about all the rites. They're really powerful, though. I probably couldn't be one 'cause I'm not as good at magic.

Oh! The Teachings of Yevon. It's a really big religion most everybody follows. There's temples everywhere, and it's really strict about what you can and can't do. [She mimics a masculine, strict-sounding voice.] Al Bhed can't enter the temples because they're heretics! The use of all technology is forbidden! You must sacrifice Summoners to defeat Sin!

[Back to her usual voice.] It's all stupid! Yu Yevon was a bufan rihkno, syhebimydeja, lunnibd robulneda fru--he was a really bad man. I just can't believe people still believe in that stuff after what happened, is all. Religion's silly like that.

How do you fight the fiends?

[blink blink at the unfamiliar language] Ah, yes. Beliefs can be hard things to change.

With magic, guns, swords, I usually use my daggers. Or bombs. Bombs are really handy.

[A somewhat nervous grin. Big mean words are best said in Al Bhed so no one understands you.] I just don't get it. Yevon was the reason hundreds of thousands of people were slaughtered for a thousand years. Yevon was the reason Spira was such a bad, scary place to live in. How could people still follow him after all that? If anything, it makes me proud that my people were the heretics.

Magic? Of what sort?

Faith is an incredibly powerful thing. It can blind, as much as it can give hope. People are given to defend it even in the face of logic or of violence. It's a tool the same as anything else - the sickle that cuts wheat to feed the hungry can also be used to kill. It's the same idea.

he needs to do somethin' 'bout that, maybe take fashion tips from Edgy and his cravat sodisasterrific September 15 2010, 21:47:47 UTC
You know. Magic! Spells. Uhm... like summoning a meteor shower! Except I can't do that one. Or making fire or lightening hit them! ...I'm not very good at those, either. I'm better at just stealing things. Like Gil, or time, or sanity, or potions and stuff.

I've never heard somebody sum it up like that. It... makes a lotta sense, when you put it that way. I just hope the Eternal Calm lasts back home in Spira, and we don't hafta save the world again. Then maybe people won't need Yevon anymore. Are you religious, Ishida?

...I hope you're not stealing things here in the city.

[saved the world? well. okay then.]

No, not really.

Uhm... eheh-heh.... [He'd do better just hoping she's not stealing from him. Everyone else is fair game.]

Phew! That's kinda a relief. Here I was talking bad about Yevon... I'm the see it to believe it kinda girl. So, all those things are real for you back home, right? You fight bad souls, and there's things like Shi...Shini... Aizy and stuff. What about an afterlife for you?

Exactly. As far as the afterlife, there is a hell - for the souls too far past morality for reincarnation, and Soul Society, where souls wait and live while waiting to be reborn.

Wow. That sounds really nice, being able to meet people in other lives, and all. Except Hell doesn't sound too fun. It must get complicated having two places people go. I mean, who makes the decision of who goes where?
