[Very nondescript location; all you can see in the background is a beige wall, but the lighting suggests it's probably outside somewhere. Youji's leaning back against that selfsame wall, looking kinda bored.]

Having always been something of a night owl, this 'Darkness' is a bit of a disappointment. Are there any ways avoid it besides locking ( Read more... )

That depends. Are you good at running?

[It's hard to tell if he's joking or not; he sounds pretty irritated. The Darkness drives him nuts too.]

As for work, there was a gentleman on the network earlier who mentioned a flower shop.

Would much prefer to swim, if you think that's viable.

[Youji, meanwhile, prefers to joke anyway.]

And I'll look into that, thank you. [Hoping it's not the one Aya and Ken work at, though...]

Just passing along the information, or are you very familiar with the shop in question?

Well, you're welcome to try, but the concrete will make it difficult.

[Holy shit, he's developing a sense of humour. What has this place done to him!?]

I'm only passing along information, I'm afraid. I haven't had the need for any flowers lately.

[short laugh.]

Don't get me wrong, passing along information is more than welcome, but the flowers were hopefully going to be a last resort.

Of course. I'm afraid I haven't got any work for a PI, but I wish you luck. In a city like this, it shouldn't be too long before something comes around.

That was my hope, yes. I'll just have to keep my ear to the ground and see what happens.

...have you been here long yourself? How difficult would it be to get more steady jobs be, do you know?

I've only been here about three weeks and I've managed a steady job with the police. [Pause.] I suppose that makes us rivals.

In any case, it's not impossible but it does require persistence. The townspeople don't seem to like us very much.

'Rival' is a strong word. Believe me, I only do what I'm paid to do; I have no intention of interfering with police work.

But yes. Persistence. [Sigh.]

...this matter with the townspeople, however--typical fear of the proverbial 'other?' Or is there something else in play here that I'm missing?

That's good to hear. I'm not exactly in a position to clash with you if you did, but it would be a shame nonetheless.

...It's hard to say. Some of it is the fear of the other but it's not entirely unreasonable. We keep arriving, completely out of their control, crowding their city faster than their resources or economy can properly support. Can you blame them for being a little resentful?

Can't blame them, but I can certainly find it irritating.

I suppose we're all victims here.
