Father. It looks like you won. Name your prize.

[Liquid's voice is laced with rage, though not at the man he's addressing.]

Dammit, I was so close, and I got fired on the last day? At least I got paid. I think they were just happy enough to get rid of me after what happened.

[There's a pause while he sighs. His voice softens.]

Perhaps you should report him to his superiors.

Perhaps, but I'd be a damn hypocrite.

You care about that?

They can't even do anything except fire him. He's too strong for them to take under custody.

...besides, it was Otacon who got in the way of the sword. Kadaj wasn't intending to strike him.

No, he is not. If they but exerted themselves, they could easily imprison him. They could keep him behind bars, but instead those craven -

[He bites off his words when he realizes just how much emotion is creeping into them.]

Was Kadaj attempting to strike you?

...they prefer not to. Is that what you mean?

That's correct, though not seriously.

[A sigh.]

You want the full story? Fine. Kadaj decided to come show off his uniform to me at the university and thought it would be funny to pretend I was under arrest. The joke went a little too far, I punched him in the face - twice - and he drew his sword on me. Otacon tried to stop the fight and ended up hurt in the process. He got me fired, I got Otacon hurt.

That is a crime, then. A most excellent start to his career in law enforcement.

You are his "friend," correct?

...he didn't even know what he was meant to do as a policeman. I had to explain arrests to him.

For lack of a better word, yes.

He is in over his head indeed.

I can't see it lasting. But frankly, while Yazoo, Loz and Yaha are all on the force as well, I really can't see Kadaj being taken down.

You do seem to have a deeply limited imagination.

Do feel free to try to spur them into it. It isn't me you should be talking to if you want him removed - it's the police.

Want him removed? Why would I? This will, after all, be his downfall.

After all the chaos he's left in his wake that hasn't spurred anything you think this will?

As a matter of course. But I should not, of course, discuss that with you.

...hn. Of course. That would be both reckless and foolish, neither of which you are.

[Finally, the voice sounds less muffled.]

Not, I will admit, that I'm protecting his interests. He can look out for himself and I still haven't forgiven them for what happened to Father.
