[The silver-haired youth is in a dimmed basement-like room, surrounded by big ol' reels of old fashioned movie film. and
a monstrosity of an editing machine. The proverbial cutting room floor is getting pretty littered...and Sander Cohen's currently at work behind him, for the moment engrossed enough in splicing reels together that Joe can sneak in an update to the network]
I'm just checking in, so that my friends don't think I've disappeared or...gone missing or anything. We're getting the film festival thing done, and I won't be home till we've wrapped. It's finish now, or bust.
Lesson of the month: Making a movie is much much harder and has much more steps than anybody ever thinks. I gotta give a lot of credit to anybody who's done it before. It's not so easy as just recording on an NV. Nowhere near that simple. I heard from a lot of people all over the place that doing it this 'old fashioned way' is slow and that digital's ten billion times easier, but the old guy at the Crest said he'd sponsor us to do it in the old style, and let Mr. Cohen and me at all his ancient equipment for free, and this is what Mr. Cohen says real 'movie magic's' all about anyway.
Personally, I think this thing's really clunky, putting it together. [A wary glance back to the Moviola...Mr. Cohen's sing-songing to himself.]
....so we've been taping all of our shots together since morning siren, with 34 hours down to the wire to get this edited right.... over 3 hours of film to crop down the thirty minutes or less, and get it looking good, and make sure the sound fits right- the sound I get to make a digital track for, at least .
Sorry again about missing work, Sam. I hope it wasn't to hard to find people to cover for me, and that you guys had better business this weekend- I saw the newsfeed from yesterday, just now. Looks like AGI kicked Fern off, huh...well, this movie'll prove them all wrong! That newcomers can be heroes. I really hope we win it.
But all you other guys out there making one- Pesche, Minako, Miku...are you guys done with yours yet?

You guys ready to take on Secret Operation:Steal the Show? Abernathy's film crew has got a trailer with all his movie stuff parked behind his house in sector three. It's just across the street from SPU, the fancy house with the trailer in the back, really hard to miss. He's been filming in digital, and his movie's been done a few days now, sitting there, probably just waiting it out for submission day.
I got a kid and a night shift janitor (he's really rooting for us, once I told him what our entry's about) at Siren's Port Academy to unlock the school AV lab for us and log you in on the computer there, tomorrow night an hour before Siren. Whatever you want to do to it- I trust you guys. I'm sure it'll be great! I still think the Final Countdown's a must do. Break a leg!
