Has any research been done into the possible reasons newcomers tend to return to life after dying and yet he same can't be said for the people who have lived here their whole lives?

How would you go about researching that? Seems to me they would need a volunteer.

[Well, this is quite a way to learn that the last onetime Weiss member is here.]

They could question the newcomers who've died and returned to see if they have anything in common.

First you'd have to track them down.

Some area easy to find - their deaths were covered in the newspaper.

[continues as though Nagi never spoke]

Then you have to convince them not to lie.

Lie about what?

Are you telling me you would be entirely honest if someone interrogated as to your manner of death, daily routine, eating habits, mentality at death, frequent associates, hobbies and favorite drink? And more besides.

I know a thing or two about questioning people. The key is to isolate as many factors as possible, then eliminate them.

I'm not stupid and some of those more personal questions seem completely unneeded.

I'm surprised you aren't more willing to keep your options open.

[This is would be Youji projecting his own issues wildly on to Nagi.]

[Keeping his options open won't make Tot come back. It's been far too long for that. Why did he and Ken come back to life when she didn't?!]

You don't need to be surprised about anything involving me.

[It's because he isn't surprised that it's so surprising. Keeping in mind that Youji still remembers joining Nagi's and Tot's hands in death. He's seen Nagi since then, but never Tot.]

I can't say I wouldn't have asked the same question, were I you.

What's that supposed to mean, Balinese?

It means I would have done something very similar in your situation.

[Well, that just annoys and confuses him. Thanks a lot, Yohji.]

Actually, you'd need at least two. Since the question is why death affects newcomers differently than natives.

You're absolutely right, of course. My specialty is more questioning people than scientific procedure, I suppose.

Pleasure to meet you, come to think of it.
