he's coming down the stairs, passing the fourth floor when he smells it -- burnt rice and faint smoke. it's a little revolting and gets his immediate attention and, partly out of concern and curiosity, he follows it until it leads him to the kitchen.
and some pouty, sad looking kid standing over a mess.]

until he heard someone which, to be honest, made him jump a little! when the boy's head whirled around in slight shock- ]

H-how long- I mean- I'm-!!

Er -- [he pushes his shades up with his thumb. the only indication of his current mood tsuna would be able to determine would be from the slight crease of his brow.] I'm not interrupting anything, am I?

Ah- N-no, you're not-! I was just going to clean it up! And . . . heat up another one.

--Noodles and onigiri? Those are good for light eating. [and without asking to, he crouches down and helps wipe up the mess.] A little late for lunch, though. Did you make them for yourself or--

No- well . . . I made most of the onigiri for lunch, and to share, but . . . [ self explanatory. ] Since they aren't good, I was going to make noodles instead, since it was quick. It was too hot and- I dropped it.

[ if the other doesn't mind- he's going to take the wet paper towels in his hand, including the rest of the garbage and stuff to throw in the trash. while he got up, he also checked the rice. ] There's a lot left.

Hm. Yeah, you're right -- there's enough. If you rinsed the rice before cooking, that might be why your batch ended up all soggy; you want it to stick and clump together. [he turns back to look at him.] Want me to show you how?

S-sure!

[he turns the water on and washes his hands in the sink. he's been in a pretty poor mood all day, but getting back into an old routine that doubles as a hobby makes him feel a little better. it makes him feel like he's bringing a little bit of home with him to the city.]
Get a new pot and cook the rice in it over the oven. We'll chop the vegetables and get the filling ready while we wait for it to finish.
[a beat. he gives tsuna a tiny glance as an afterthought before he starts organizing the ingredients on the countertop like he would when cooking back at mother base.]
What's your name?

Tsunayoshi. But Tsuna is fine- What about you?

[he reaches into the pantry for a bowl to mix the mayo and tuna filling in. it's one of the easier recipes he has committed to memory and one of the first he'd ever learned as a kid, so this is all like clockwork for him.] Do you usually cook, Tsuna?

[ he observes- since, you know, he wants to make sure he does things right the next time, but then it hit him that he needs to watch the rice. or it'll burn again. so, attention on the rice! ]
No. I'm pretty bad it- I wanted to try again, though. I made it with someone here once, so I thought I'd remember all the key things. I guess not . . .

[stirring.] They're very easy as long as you remember a few key steps. Number one, don't rinse the rice and make sure your hands are wet before you start shaping it; number two, pressing too hard will make it soggy and mushy; and number three, leave the rice in long enough so it'll get sticky and pliable, otherwise it'll crumble when you eat it.
[he finishes, having whipped the filling enough so that it has a good consistency. then once he sets that aside, he starts cutting the vegetables.]
